Sorry I've been MIA- brain surgery

Hey ladies! I don't know if you all remember back last summer when I told you that I had been having bad headaches, dizziness, numbness, etc and had been diagnosed with a chiari malformation, which means my skull is too small for the back part of my brain and was forcing my brain into my spinal canal. I promised I would keep you all updated and I haven't done a very good job of that! So here goes!
Things had gotten progressively worse in the last few months and I hadn't been able to function very well. This past week, I had an ER visit with loss of motor skills in my right arm, blood flow loss to my arm and complete numbness. MRI's showed that my spinal fluid flow was greatly decreased and it was cutting off nerves, causing permanent damage and causing my arteries to spasm and cut off blood flow. I had decompression surgery on Tuesday, where the dr went in, took out a piece of my skull, the arch of my c1 vertebrae and grafted a mesh patch into the dura of my brain to try to open the space up and decompress the nerves. I have been in a lot of pain and won't be allowed to lift my boys or drive for 3 months, but my feeling is coming bck and I'm feeling better already! Just wanted to let you guys know that I am still around and would appreciate prayers! I'm hoping to be more active now that I feel better! Thanks for reading! And I hope everyone is doing well. I hope it doesn't offend anyone, but here is the aftermath of my surgery!

Holy cow I'm so sorry it got so much worse! Brain surgery is the scariest thing in the world to me, I'm so glad you're starting to feel better. Is the mesh patch temporary or permanent? Hoping you don't have to go through anything like this again. Will be thinking of you and praying in the coming months.

  • Thanks everyone. I had a few rough nights as sleeping is no easy task now with a 4.5 inch incision on your head! T, the patch is permanent, I hope. Sometimes the body can reject it and it can take months to tell, but so far so good. The boys have been helpful with everything for me and ask to see my 'boo-boo' about a hundred times a day, followed by 'that's so cool, mom!' Lol. I'm pretty much useless for the next few months at least, but it's been better than I had imagined as far as recovery. I'm excited to get back to having fun! Thanks for all of your prayers and kind words and I promise to be around a lot more now, after all I have lots of down time ;)
