Distraction and question !

My DS is just over four months old now and I think we've hit the distraction phase, he will eat until just after letdown or sometimes in the middle and then pop on and off and gets upset sometimes but always will re latch the fast letdown I've always had and he's never had an issue with it so I don't think that's it, he does get a little grunty and clamps down sometimes like he's mad (ouch) then pops off but will relatch all the time, so I burp and reoffer then when he does the same thing I switch sides and again he will be ok for a minute or two sometimes then repeat the process, it's a battle to get him to eat it seems and I don't know if he's just becoming more efficient with nursing now and it basically full so that's why he keeps coming off or if it's cause he gets distracted he pops off and looks at me and smiles he's not looking around a lot, I've tried a cover he hates it makes things worse, tried walking around and dark quiet room nothing is working, any other tips and will this get better ?? FTM here so I'm kind of lost, also worried about it affecting my supply he feeds about every 2-3 hrs and twice over night, good wet and poopy diapers and does seem satisfied after he never seems hungry anymore, the only other thing that is different is I started antibiotics for a skin infection I have could that change the taste of my milk and make him not want it as much ?? It's just such a change from how he use to nurse, never popped off and I usually had to unlatch him cause he would stay there forever if I let him now it's a battle to get him to eat for more then a few minutes! I've also looked in his mouth no signs of thrush or anything like that and no pain while feeding. How do I keep my supply up when he's not eating that well.
Sorry for the long post I'm just so lost at what to do and maybe I'm worrying too much about it ??

Re: Distraction and question !

  • Thanks :) I do feel like he's happy and satisfied but of course I get worried with all these changes at once it seems, can't really force him to eat if he won't I guess, he use to take a bottle just fine for two months before bedtime with EBM but now he's refusing that too ! Little stinker

  • I have no advice as I could have written this question word for word!  One of my twins is going through the exact same thing.  He used to nurse forever if I let him, and now I'm lucky if I get 5 calm minutes.  I hope it gets better for you.  Hang in there! (and let me know if you find something that works for you) :)
