Snuza monitor review... Long

Just wanted to share my experience with the snuza. As a TTM, I will admit that I thought movement monitors were overkill even though I've always been anxious and checking to see if baby is breathing during the night. This LO gave us a scare in the hospital- where we had to prod her awake and even called the nurse! Also, her breathing is very shallow and quiet. Just makes me nervous all the time.

First I bought an angel care monitor off CL. Worked perfectly and definitely gave me peace of mind. Only complaint was that we kept setting off the alarm when we picked her up and forgot to push hold first. Then, about a week later, she refused to sleep in her bassinet anymore. She needed the cozy feel of the RNP. Now I know flat on their back is best but it was not happening and we ended up sleeping with her on us which is worse IMO. So now the monitor was going to waste and I was back to being anxious all night. Even more so b/c I knew the RNP was a no no!

So I had a GC for BRU and ordered the snuza Oma. It's awesome y'all! Small little thing that clips onto her diaper. Easy to turn on/off. I tested it and man it's loud. We can use it in the RNP or bouncy or swing, not just the crib. When she moves to her room, we already have a video monitor in there so this will be perfect. So if you are on the fence, get it! Im sleeping more soundly now with that extra peace of mind!

Re: Snuza monitor review... Long

  • @slwprincess‌ I've really been on the fence to get one, though I really want one. It's nice to see a review non amazon for it!

On a side note, why is rnp a nono? It's the only place ds will sleep at night.

  • They just say that flat on their back is best for SIDS prevention. Also, with any recline there is a chance of their head flopping forward and cutting off airway but personally, I find that hard to imagine with the RNP- just the way it's designed. My pedi wasn't crazy about it but she also said that sleep is important and she agreed RNP is much safer than sleeping on us! You gotta pick your battles!

  • Absolutely! I'm glad the snuza is helping with that. I just went on amazon and ordered!

  • We also use Snuza and love it! I'm sleeping so much better since we started using it, and it's so easy to use.

  • I have a dumb question. The snuza alerts if LO stops breathing, right? Is it supposed to "wake up" LO with the alarm? Or is the expectation that parents need to come in and administer CPR to restart breathing? Has their been any research/success stories on the Snuza?

Depends on the model. There's one that vibrates to get LO to start breathing, then beeps to alert the parents if they still dont breathe. The cheaper one only beeps.

I have the one that beeps. It might startle LO enough to wake him, but I think more importantly, it wakes us up to help him. I wasn't sure I was comfortable with the vibrating one. It doesn't beep until LO has gone 30 seconds without breathing.

This. I also went with beeping version b/c I'm not sure that the vibrate would wake her (she LIKES vibration- it soothes her) and cheaper. The beep is loud enough I think it would startle her awake but if not, hopefully we would be there quick enough to take
    action.

  • We have the snuza hero. It vibrates if there is no movement and then alarm goes off. My LO only sleeps in the swing or RnP so I really like having the monitor. My only concern is that the snuza may be impacted by the motion of the swing rather the the baby. I think I read a review that swings may impact the snuza performance but at this point that's the only thing that will put K to sleep on his own.

I've never used one, but, based on reviews here and on Amazon, ours is on the way. Thank you for the recomendation.

@avswolf I don't think you'll regret it. I was hesitant to spend the money, and then the clip part on ours was broken so we didn't use it for the first week while we were waiting for a replacement (sent to us no questions asked - great customer service) so I wasn't sure if we even "needed" it. But I sleep so much better knowing we have this and that LO is being monitored. And that's worth every penny to me!

  • do you have to undress them to turn the monitor on and off since it's clipped to their diaper?

Actually, I've been able to feel the buttons thru her clothes but basically, we only put it on/take it off during diaper changes so it's no big deal.

  • that makes sense! I guess because it's so close to her, you probably don't have many false alarms go off. the family I nannied for had the one that went under the mattress so it was constantly going off if the baby rolled away from the sensor.

  • Thanks for the review! I've been wanting to get one so badly and it's great to know it actually works :) one question though, do you think the clip is big enough that it would work with CD?

Absolutely. You can actually clip it on their clothing too. Online it suggests dressing older babies in a onesie with pants and then you clip it on the pants on the outside of the onesie.

Yes, we set off the angel care every night forgetting to push the hold button! It was kind of frustrating. I wondered how people dealt with that that?! This is much easier!
