Pregnant after 35

We have an outside baby

Ryland Tyler was born on 3/15 at 4:20pm. He is 7lbs 9oz & 19 1/2in long. He was born at 38w 2d.

My water broke at 2:30am after about 1.5 hours of sleep since I've been fighting a horrible all week which I think has turned into a sinus infection (I need to follow up with my doctor tomorrow). Mild contractions started about 30 minutes later nothing too crazy. Got to the hospital at 4am contractions were about 3min apart. I was barely a cm. By 9am I was contracting pretty well thought I was making progress but was only 1cm. I requested a epidural which took about a hour/hour and 1/2. At this point the contractions really got strong I tried to breath through but I was struggling to breath due to the cold. Finally got the epidural it took on the right side but not on the left but took some of the edge off. They pumped in more meds and finally felt relief on the left side. I was able to sleep on and off because I knew I needed to sleep before pushing. At 12pm I was 4cm by 3 I was 10cm. I was feeling slight contractions but totally tolerable. I started pushing and then my contractions went from 2 min apart to 5 min apart. The nurse had me practice pushing 30-45 minutes which was only 6-7 pushes since the contractions were 5 min apart. It was annoying waiting to push and making little progress since it was so long between contractions. My doctor came in and had me start pitocin which increased the contraction time. It was also hard to push and breath since I was so congested due to my cold. DS was stuck on my pubic bone since he never dropped so it took some work to get him past but once I did it was only a couple pushes and he was here. No tearing or episiotomy so no stitches which it great compared to what happened with Ds1. DS (who will be 5 on the 24th) is so excited to have his little brother here as we are to. We love Ryland so much already. Now I just need to get rid of all this sinus pressure hoping to get some meds tomorrow.

  • Congratulations, and I hope you feel better soon!  Sinus stuff always sucks but it sounds like you have yours at about the worst possible time!  Though at least now you have a little snuggle-bundle to distract you.
