Reglan

For the breastfeeding mommies who had to take Reglan, did it help? How long before you saw improvement? Did you suffer any additional depression issues? I think I am going to have to resort to taking it because I am just not progressing. My OB did not want to prescribe it because of possible depression side effects and he felt I had enough risks for depression without it. He said he would if nothing else worked. I have picked up the prescription. I am now 18 days post delivery and have been doing everything under the sun to help and nothing has worked.

Re: Reglan

  • I'm curious if this worked for you.  My LC mentioned Reglan, but I wasn't too keen on taking it, based on the side effects.  I talked to my OB about it and she had never prescribed it before, so she wasn't much help.  Most of the people I talked to in the medical field didn't seem too favorable about it.

  • I tried Reglan with my first and it was awful. I felt like a zombie while on it. Made me sooo drowsy. Like, falling asleep at a restaurant drowsy. No thanks. I took domperidone instead and it worked really well without the side effects of Reglan.
  • Reglan has a horrible side effect profile. Domperidone is not FDA approved in the US due to 1 case study in which It was used in very high doses, intravenously, and along with other IV meds in a woman with a terminal cancer dx. She died. Domperidone was wrongly blamed for her death and is thus not used widely in the US. That said I'm on it and attribute. Y ability to EBF my 8 month old twins to it. And I'd never take Reglan.

  • I don't think it has really helped much.   Up until now I haven't had any side effects, but over the last 24 hours I have noticed twitching a couple of times in my cheek.  Not sure it is related, BUT it has never happened before. May have to stop taking it.  How did you get the Domperidone?  I was told by a nurse in the NICU that it is no longer available.
