Medela vs Ameda

Weird question about Medela pumping.
I had the Ameda Purely Yours with DS2 and was happy with it pumping at work for almost a year. My insurance covered $100 off a new pump for DD so I bought a Medela Advanced (same as PIS minus the bag and accessories). I figured I'll keep the Medela at work and Ameda at home. I'm finding the frequency of the Medela really weird. With Ameda I would set it to run very fast to get the let-down and then would move it to high-suction and very low frequency to get nice long "draws". The Medela I didn't realize that you can't control the frequency and when it switches from let-down to regular mode I find it really weird that it still pumps so fast. I'm responding fine to it (just pumped 4 oz from each side) it just feels weird. Did you just get used to the high frequency?? Am I even crazy for feeling like it's too fast?
Also I saw the Lansinoh pump wipes - does anyone use them? How are they?

Re: Medela vs Ameda

  • I only used a medela so I have no comparison. I only used the wipes if i was traveling and couldn't really wash. For work I would pump and then just wrap it in a cloth in my bag then wash everything at home at night.

I only used a Medela so I can't comment on the comparison.

Regarding the wipes, I didn't like how they left a soapy looking residue on the pump parts after using them. I was fortunate enough to have a pumping room with a soap dispenser so I just washed my pump parts after my first session, used the same ones for my second session and used fresh parts for my third. A lot of woman like to put their pump parts in the fridge between sessions and I will probably do that when I pump with my second.

  • I only had a Medela and used it to EP for 2 months. I had no idea other pumps had different frequencies, but I have no complaints about my Medela pump. I also would rinse the pump parts, put them in a bag and put them in the fridge. Then I'd wash once or twice a day.
