Hi-
  We have two chicco nextfits.  I have trouble getting the straps to tighten nicely all the time. Does anyone have any tips? I try to keep the chest clip towards the bottom and unclipped then tighten then move and tighten and then clip and tighten.  It seems sometimes I just cant get it tight enough or one strap will tighten more than the other.  I feel like the one in my husbands car tightens easier too.

    I will clip the chest clip and the crotch clip, pull out excess strap from the bottom of leg/thigh, pull the chest clip all the way down to the crotch clip, then pull the the shoulder strap all the way down so that the underside of the shoulder strap that extends outs is at or under the chest clip, then pull the tightening strap. Then pull down the chest clip and the shoulder strap and repeat. I usually have to adjust 4x or so, then push up the shoulder strap and the chest clip. But I have to confess that because the shoulder strap and chest clip are so hard to adjust, I usually don't have the chest clip at arm pit level =(

    I used to loosen and tighten every time but then I just gave up on that and keep it set at what it needs to be. I only adjust for bulkier/thinner clothing.In which case I just pull the tightening belt at an angle.

    After I do the tightening like PPs and push up chest clip, I do the pinch test of the shoulder straps that are in between the pads and the chest clip. The user's manual says if you can pinch a fold in the strap then it is too loose.

    It was a little difficult at first, but I've either gotten used to it or it's loosened up. I tighten every time. I pull it out, clip the chest clip, then the buckles. Then I tighten it, adjust the clip, then tighten once more. I loosen it before unbuckling her.

    Is it the pads that are making it difficult for you? The new shoulder pads are much nicer than the ones made before Oct '13.

    I wondered about that because of all of the reviews I read that talked about the stiff shoulder pads. I've never found them to be stiff, so I wondered if they changed them.

    @Trish625 if yours are soft and have velcro, they are new. If they have a rubber-ish backing on them then they are old. The DOM is on the base, as well.

    I just found out I have the old straps. Calling next week to get the new ones. I've been fighting that thing like crazy, until I learned the trick about only doing the buckle and sliding the clip and pads all the way down before tightening, then back up and then clipping the chest. I'm really hoping the new strap covers make it easier!
