Groin pain in the front?

Anyone else have frontal groin pain? Not the inner-thighs, but like right up front (where the hair grows).

It's been driving me crazy the past few days and I have no idea how to help it. Not even sure what muscles/tendons run through that area.

Anyone out there experiencing this too or have knowledge of human anatomy (athletic trainers, physical therapists, etc.) to know what those muscles are?

Re: Groin pain in the front?

  • I am having the exact same pain, and have no idea what it is. Thanks for asking this! I hope someone knows what it is. I was going to wait to ask at my appointment on Monday.

  • I have been told it's part of the round ligament. I've been experiencing it too. Sitting on an exercise ball as helped (some).

  • I have that now and had it for my previous 2 pregnancies, as well. When I had asked my dr the first time his response was "you're very pregnant.....its unfortunately, just what happens with all the pressure on nerves, etc".  Completely normal and not a sign of labor at all (if we are talking about the same type of aching/stabbing pain)
  • *raises hand* At my last appointment I was told the baby was really low so I think that's where the pain is coming from.

@undercoverst - I actually had to look up what the round ligament was b/c I never had any issues with it during my first pregnancy. Seeing where it is, that makes sense.

@GummyBear101‌ - it's definitely more achy than anything else. like a pulled/sore muscle. I definitely wasn't worried about signs of labor.

Could be SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction). Does it feel like you've been kicked in the crotch or ridding a bike for a few days straght? Does it bother you more when you stand on one leg?

  • I've had it the past several days too. For a little while I thought it could be a UTI but as soon as I made an appointment for it, all symptoms stopped.
  • Could be RLP or stretching if the baby is low. I'd also add constipation to the list of possibilities, based on my own experience. If it's been a few days, once the pressure and discomfort build up, I do start to feel muscle pain in the front. Almost like someone kicked me there. It's usually only one side, though, and it goes away when I'm able to go.

  • Yes, and mine extends from my groin up the front of my belly on both sides, about halfway up to my belly button. It's worse on the right. Dr. says it's a combo of RLP, muscle strain/fatigue, and nerve pressure. It's intensely painful and I hate it, but nothing helps, even rest.

  • Yes!  It's worse if I've lifted DD much the day before, so DH has to do most of the bathing etc for her now.

Last time I used to have to sleep with a pillow between my legs for support, but this time using extra pillows seems to make it worse.

  • I don't have the pain associated with this specific area, but I know little dude is super low. Sometimes it literally feels like he's knockin' on mons pubis' door.

  • Maybe try a chiropractor.  I just went to my first session this morning and believe me, they get all up in your biz!  She did this thing where she pressed right on my pubic bone and then stretched my hip flexors.  I do feel a major difference.  I mostly went to help with my sciatic nerve pain, but didn't realize how out of line my pelvis and hips were until she started doing her thing.  Check and see if your insurance covers chiro.  I just had to pay a copay.

That's going to be a fun song to get stuck in my head tonight ;)

  • I have this, along with some swelling. OB things it's a varicose vein from all the extra pressure. I didn't know that was even possible!
