Re: Workout Check In

    • Last weeks goals/activities: how did you fair in meeting your goals: I've been doing okay! I'm obviously a lot more tired, and since we work out in the early AM, it's getting harder when I've already been up for hours and am feeling drained by 5:00 am. That said, I think I was still about to get 3-4 trips to the gym in (I haven't really been counting, but I have to say, I feel much better on the days I work out!).
    • What are your goals/activities planned for this week? My biggest activity this week is hoping this new winter storm isn't going to impact our schedule too much.  I cannot believe this winter.  This week is my last week at work, so I'm really looking forward to next week being a time I can go to the gym more regularly (and catch up on movies!) -- mostly because I think this little lady plans on being fashionably late.
    • GTKY: We're getting down to the wire! For later: any suggested post-partum health/fitness challenges? I agree wtih @jt7dreamz that training for a 5k sounds like good motivation.  I haven't run in a really long time (maybe a week before the BFP), so I'm looking forward to perhaps running the annual 4th of July race in our town.  DH and I have run it every year for the last 3 years, so that sounds like a nice tradition to keep up.

@jbelle - you're so close!!!! How are you feeling?

  • I'm so glad to hear others are doing well! I am in like Flynn for that 5k.

Last week was awful for me. I only made it to the pool once IIRC and paid the price in being cranky.

This week I have been once so far, on Sunday, might go this evening and will DEFINITELY make it tomorrow!

I am hoping that next week will be fantastic as I will be on mat leave and it is a big goal of mine daily.

  • @pepperedmoth - I'll be on leave starting next week, too - we can cheer each other on.  Happy to be in the home stretch, but I'm also super ready to be done.  I hope lots of workouts will at least help with some of the discomfort!

  • Hi guys! I haven't checked in lately, but am still trying to be at least a little active. I put my gym membership on hold at this point, because I wasn't getting much out of it, but I'll reactivate as soon as doctor clears me post-delivery. I did go to yoga last night, and it was great. This is my last week of work, and it's slowly getting less cold in Chicago, so I'm going to try for a few walks between now and LOs arrival... and then lots of walking when baby arrives and I'm feeling up to it. I always end up feeling better after working out, even if it's lower impact.

Last night I was thinking how excited I am to really break out in a sweat again. I'm hoping to do a 5k/8k/10k progression over the summer, with the 5k in June or July, then upping the distance each month through the fall. There tend to be tons of races around where I live, so I just hvae to pick the right ones to fit my plan. I can't wait to bike and do some classes at the gym, too. Partially to get slimmed down again, but also because I love feeling like I'm in good shape. I'll be sure to jump in to check ins in the coming months!
    • Last weeks goals/activities: how did you fair in meeting your goals?
Did pretty well overall! We swam twice, and I walked 5 out of 7 days. I didn't do any stretching, but that was just aspirational anyway. I think I'm lying to myself about the stretching at this point. :)
    • What are your goals/activities planned for this week?
Same as last week - walk at least 3 times, and more if possible, and swim at least once. I enjoy the swimming so much that I hope to get in at least 2 sessions again. Plus, it's the only thing that will really cool down my incessantly sweaty/hot pregnant self.
    • GTKY: We're getting down to the wire! For later: any suggested post-partum health/fitness challenges?
We usually do a couple 5ks/year for charities/with friends/for work/etc., but I'm not planning any right now. My post-partum fitness challenge will be to get back out on the trail with my husband. Pre-this we used to go on 10+ mile hikes almost every weekend. I can't wait to figure out how to strap baby to us, and get back out there. It's our favorite thing to do together.

  • CONGRATULATIONS @clo1982

@Jt7dreamz: Fantastic on meeting your goals! I think the half marathon goal is a great one--kudos for having it! 5k is my absolute limit, and I think it's a great idea for a first challenge; the idea of a couch-to-5k-type build up post-partum sounds great.

@kcasset: I'm jealous you're done with work! I hope you're able to get in a few workouts and catch up on movies; the latter especially! I'm in for the 5k training. I may only be running it in my basement, but maybe if we wind up getting a jogging stroller I'll change my tune. Either way, training for one as a group would be great motivation! (And I'm feeling good, actually! If I was off work, I would be totally cool with her taking all the time in the world to arrive… but I'm getting anxious since I'm working up to the bitter end! Thanks for asking!)

@bennieangel: You're wise to focus on yoga and stretching! I bet those will help with labor and delivery. I need to get some squats and hamstring stretches in today. Another 5ker! FX for great spring weather!

@babycaps: Congratulations! New baby, great recovery, and it sounds like things are going well thanks to your active pregnancy!! I am noting all your post-partum advice! We should make an effort to make a list of suggestions for either our second pregnancies or other's firsts. I really wish I would have kept up my lifting workouts!

@pepperedmoth: Yey for maternity leave!! Enjoy your time pre-baby--workouts or no! I'm looking more and more forward to this 5k challenge!

@Anneplusone: I hope the stretching helps your pain! I'm so impressed by you half marathoners; I'll enjoy cheering you on after the 5k challenge!

@ErinE683: I will make sure to add you to the list! I hadn't even thought of biking; that could be a great family activity. That's great this is your last week of work! I hope you're able to enjoy some time off pre-baby.

@benevolentforce: My DH bought a ridiculous Dueter Comfort III pack for our daughter already. He's been wearing it around the house! We're not big hikers, but we may start now that we've got the pack! LOL.

AFM: I only got 2 of 3 workouts in last week; and I'm off pace this week as well, but still hoping to manage 3 workouts; however, we did get mucho work done on out house and nursery last weekend that certainly provided physical exertion in lieu of typical exercise. Post-partum, I'm looking forward to this 5k challenge. And I'm wondering if I'll be posting another check in next Tuesday or not!

And as a post script--because it's not worth it's own discussion--these mini-badges are cracking me up. My anniversary badge alt text: "Ancient Membership." LOL. Just in case I forget I'm old.  ;)

  • @Jt7dreamz or @Anneplusone: please feel free to post a check in!

I went into labor on my due date this past Sunday and little girl arrived right on time! We're doing great, but adjusting to parenthood--which right now involves a nap for mommy, too! I hope to post an announcement with birth story sometime soon.

I hope things are going great for you ladies!
