WDSD is a global day of awareness and advocation for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome. Around the world people with Down sydrome face barriers such as limited access to education, work, and healthcare.
I like to think it is also a day to celebrate the people in our lives with Down syndrome!

Remember to be an advocate for those with Down syndrome - Let them in!
Re: It is World Down Syndrome Day.
I didn't know those statistics, they are heartbreaking. There are a lot of health complications that can come along with Down syndrome. For the little ones that make it, some they have years of surgeries and therapies ahead but these are improving all of the time.
You're right that children (and adults) with Downs are miracles. And their parents and caregivers are angels!
I have a friend who's sister had Downs. She passed a few years ago in her 50s. She was awesome!!!!
My hubby has a nephew with Downs. He is in his later 30s. Have not seen him in years since the sister had a falling out with the family
I have worked with Down Syndrome kids in my classes. Loved them. They are awesome.
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
This was never personalized for me until I learned early on, that there was risk of Down's in this pregnancy (testing later showed that baby boy is healthy). But even now, it holds a special place in my heart. I never knew those stats, and they are heartbreaking.
Children born with Down's, who grow into these awesome children and great adults, are nothing short of a miracle! I am glad there is a day that they are celebrated worldwide!
