Reflux, gas, or baby being baby?

So between 45min to an hour after a feeding ends, my Lo becomes unconsolable. I EBF and this generally only happens in the afternoon or evening feedings. Last time we went to pedi, we got the okay to use gas drops and we do after her bedtime feeding. I also asked about possible reflux and he asked if she spits up, which she does, but it doesn't seem to bother her. So he didn't think that was what it is. I also stopped eating dairy products incase that's what's bothering her.

Anyways, we go back next week and I will ask again, but I wanted to see if anyone else is expierencing something similar and what they did to help LO. Thanks girls!

Re: Reflux, gas, or baby being baby?

  • Kind of sounds like baby being baby. DD tends to be very grouchy in the evening, from about 5pm till I get her asleep around 9 or 10pm. I wouldn't says she's inconsolable, but she's definitely hard to please (only likes a certain position, wants to nurse more frequently, takes a paci then spits it out, etc).

I think if you're noticing fussiness during one particular time of day, it may not be gas.

  • Sounds a lot like Daphne. It is also mostly in the evenings. I just put her down for the ... 6th? ... time this evening. She would nurse, fall asleep on me, and either wake up 5 min later crying, or wake up 5 min after I put her down. Either way, the only thing that will calm her is nursing. However, some nights, NOTHING will work. It's super frustrating. I have also cut out dairy and give her gas drops. I think it's just baby being baby.

  • Thanks girls! FTM, so it's good to know I'm not alone and that maybe it's just someyh
  • Something we will have to accept...hopefully it's a phase!
  • It's the witching hour - we all have them around the same time (though Emily seems to have introduced a second between half three and 6 in the morning if she can't come back to our bed) BAD baby :)
  • @vshumway‌ I will ask our pedi about cluster feeding, but may try it today. I'm sure it couldn't hurt, thanks!

ITA with cluster feeding in evenings - both my kids have been on the boob almost constantly during those hours.
