He only babbles and sometime it comes out as dada but we're not counting it as his first word. My older two boys were late talkers so I'm not concerned right now.
He definitely says dada and means DH. He gets all excited when DH gets gone from work and bounces up and down saying dada over and over. Super cute. Still no mama though.
He keeps saying "bung" though so I may give up on mommy and just be bung from now on.
DH swears she says dada and I totally humor him and play it up like I'm pissed and disappointed. But really, everything is dadadadada right now, even her food. Sorry DH.
+1. I always say, "can I get a mama up in here?!?" When DH is around. But yeah, lots of dada this dada that. Or maybe he's just really into avant garde art and is a genius.
She will sign "dog" and say bubba (for brother) when the dog comes in the room. I probably sound bat shit crazy, but my husband is the biggest skeptic and it is no coincidence. She will even call for the dog that way. He is her BFF. She also says Dada on purpose when she sees him. She says Mama too, but I don't think she associates it with me yet. She can sign "more" appropriately as well. She will use it with food and tickles. Pretty cool to see them developing into little people!
Serious question: Should I be concerned that M only communicates in screams, squeals, grunts and raspberries? This poll just made me realize that he was babbling at about six months but has regressed. Another q for the pedi list.
When my LO was learning to pull up and cruise, he practically stopped babbling for awhile. Now that he has become good at pulling up and cruising, he's back to babbling lots. I think sometimes their little brains get overloaded when they are trying to do too much at once. Is there anything else new your LO is doing that might be distracting him from babbling?
Wait, are we talking about our 9 month old babies? Or have I stumbled into a wrong BMB in my drunken stupor ( march madness, can't help it!). I'm shocked that there are babies that can say multiple words. Mine can make dada and mama sounds but it's just all nonsense babbling.
Just this week I can confidently say that she calls DH "Dada", me "Mama" and says "baba" for bye-bye. Lots of other babbling with consonants. I think because her brother is constantly talking!!
Sorry I accidentally posted this poll twice ladies. At our appointment today our pedi didn't care at all the LO couldn't crawl but seemed concerned he wasn't saying momma or dada. I feel a lot better now
She knows 2 words. Dad/Dada and Cat/Kitty Cat. I've been saying them constantly to her. When DH gets home she just screams "Dada!!" And when she sees the cat, she points, giggles and either says cat or kitty cat. I must of said cat/kitty cat to her thousands of times, so she was bound to get that one soon. She's been saying both for a few weeks now.
B is very active so I think he might be slow to speak real words. He babbles a little but the only "word" that he definitely says in relationship to a specific thing/feeling is "Ning". He says it when he is unhappy - he's overtired, fell down, can't get to something. But since Ning is not a real word but more of a random noise of discontent that he made up, I answered no, just babbling.

No, I wouldn't be worried. Raspberries come before language. I read about this somewhere.
Levi talks a ton and the pedi was surprised when he said a couple for her. However, he is my pet rock. He doesn't crawl, or pull up on anything, or stand on his own. He can sit and he can talk. So, my point is every baby develops different skills on their own time. Just enjoy the ones they have so far!
The only word she knows is mumum. She'll babble dada but only reserves mumum when she's looking for me. She does respond when you talk to her with an appropriate tone and number of syllables. I don't know if it's on purpose but we do have plenty of conversations.

+1 - my LO is the same, she can say mama and dada and babbles but perfectly content on where we put her
I have a bad habit when i drive of calling people "douchebag" (classy ) and when i said it yesterday i thought to myself "whoopsie i better stop before J picks that up!". Lol
For the most part, Ellie babbles. It's mostly the "da" syllable. BUT. 2-3 times a week she says a real word. A very random real word. It hasn't been the same word yet but they are just as clear as an adult. She's said please, hi, milk and a few others. Yesterday when I picked her up from DC she said "bye Isabel" (this sounded more like "is-bel"). I swear. Two other adults heard it. She tries to mimic what I say but she's not quite there yet.

She can very clearly say Hi Dad, and generally uses it correctly. She knows her dad. The rest is mostly babble. She says mum mum, but doesn't always direct it at me. Today we were petting the little dog and I said Hi Tiara (the dog's name), M kept saying hi Tawa, she can mimic me but we'll see if she still says it when I don't.
No words but if I don't start watching my mouth her first word will probably be the F bomb.
Haha, funny you say that. Yesterday, Bradley said "you have got to be kidding with me"...oy
G picked up "Jesus!" and "Goddamit!" courtesy of my father and building a bird house together over Christmas. Thanks Papa!
I tell DH that he shouldn't play video games while LO is awake because of the screen time. In reality it's because DH has no filter when he plays that game and I really don't want lo's first words to be "You Fuck-taco!"

At least DH is creative...
