Baby Showers and Baby Registries

So I was registry stalking (myself.. I just can't help it!) and have been noticing some of the things that people have been purchasing. And part of me is now second guessing whether what we registered for was really necessary (all the while as these things are being purchased). Like specifically, I registered for a bottle warmer, because I thought that would be convenient with breast feeding since i heard you aren't supposed to microwave it, and the idea of placing it in a cup of hot water, just seemed like a waste of water. So what ladies do you think is worth actually having, how much of this stuff do you actually end up bringing back, because you talked yourself out of it?

Re: Baby Showers and Baby Registries

  • I deleted things that I originally thought I needed and added things I originally forgot! There's still time to delete and add things...
  • Loading the player...
  • I didn't have a shower for my first born so I didn't register for anything my mom hubby and myself provided me with everything I needed. Bottle warmers, baby wipe warmers, etc. are items I felt I wouldn't need... I warmed stuff think in a pan with hot water and I warmed diapers with my hand. I felt that registering this time around was way to difficult for me because I was very picky on the luxury things I knew I didn't need both registries only have like 30 things on them
  • That being said I ONLY returned one boppy because I was given 2.. Everything else was perfect. Don't overanalyze it :)
  • LOVED our wipe warmer and we used out bottle warmer all the time. It only took 1/2 teaspoon of water for steaming.

We used out wipe warmer, automatic nose sucker, bottle warmer, boppy, Rock n play, gas drops, gripe water, pacis, swing, alcohol wipes (for cord), Vaseline, etc all the time! I could keep going.....

I did take some things off
My registry this time but with the first we registered for 175 items. With the second, 35 items! You really learn what you need/don't need AFTER you have baby!

  • I agree with @savannah_girl.

Things you consider a 'must have', others will not.
I thought a wipes warmer was the biggest waste of money but it all depends on personal preference.  I had one purchased from my registry with DS and I never took it out of the box.. so that was something I asked for but never used.
I did however use the bottle warmer.  I was unable to BF for long though so warming the water to perfect temperature was nice (I felt the times I used the microwave, I could never get the water just right).
For me, one of my 'must haves' was a Bumbo..and I can't tell you how many posts I've seen on M14 of momma's stating the complete opposite.  For me, it served as a portable high chair and I kept it in my car 24/7.  Something always grossed me out about going out to eat at a restaurant and putting my baby in a grimy high chair/booster seat.
The same went for going to friends/family gatherings.  There isn't always a place to set baby to eat- so always having a Bumbo on hand saved us from that trouble.

I do want to add this..
Keep the items you have on your registry.. however, you do not need the most luxurious of each of those items.  For instance, pack n play's are the SAME, regardless of whether you register for the $200 version or the $75 version.  They all serve the same exact purpose.  Does baby need somewhere to bathe the first few months?  Yes!  Does he/she need the $75 bubbly bath spa??  NO!  The $15 portable tub suits just fine AND you will find that you'll end up with more items purchased for baby if the items scanned are reasonably priced.

  • I didn't breast feed but I loved my bottle warmer we put a mini fridge with some bottles in it and the bottle warmer on my night stand didnt have to go down stairs to feed DS in the middle of the night those extra few precious moments getting him back to sleep quicker were totally worth it

  • I was gifted a bottle warmer specifically because they noticed it wasn't on my registry and insisted that I should have one. Everyone's opinions differ. Good news is that you can return or exchange what they give you when all is said and done.
