Ped advice rant

So baby had diarrhea after switching formula last Thursday. I called Friday. Doc said give it a few days. When she still had diarrhea Monday I called again. Doc said give it a week. STILL had it today, so we went in. Doc said give it two weeks. Wish they would have just said 2 weeks to start!!!!

Doesn't help that she's been crying almost nonstop today. Total mommy meltdown.

Re: Ped advice rant

  • Hmm uncontrolled diarrhea is not good for the baby. Are you sure it's diarrhea or just loose stools? To clarify my pedi said diarrhea also means frequency of stool along with lose stools. If it's the same number of stools but lose consistency then I think it's not that much a concern. I say based on similar experience when I changed formula.

  • Stools went from 1 per day to nearly every diaper change, 7-11 per day.

That is def diarrhea :( poor thing, best thing is to push liquids.. Also do a side by side of the ingredients to see what is/ could be upsetting her stomach. You would be surprised how similar formulas really are.. U usually can use the same base-milk or soy or lactose free interchangeably w any brand... Just don't switch the base. Baby may have just picked up a bug.

  • Yep. She seemed to be extremely fussy/gassy uncomfortable after eating when we did Similac Advance. So per doc recommendation we tried similac sensitive. It worker wonders at first for her happiness, but immediately she had the runs...and now she just cries all the time but I think/hope it's developmental phase. "Period of Purple Crying"

My dd has purple crying/breathe holding spells. So I can truly feel your pain, it can be scary.
