From the UO: Chicago Style Pizza

edited March 2014 in Parenting
Admittedly, I am not from Chicago originally, however, it is a well known fact that Chicagoans RARELY, if ever, eat Chicago style pizza.  We normally only eat it when people are visiting and they want to eat it and then we begrudgingly take them.

However, if you ask my actual Chicago native friends what their favorite "Chicago style pizza" is, they will tell you Pequods, which isn't what you all think of as Chicago style.  It has this carmelized crust and it's delicious.  It's more of a pan pizza.

I felt that the UO had moved on from Pizza, but I needed to get this out there.

  • Yeah, pretty much.
  • I want that all in my mouth right now.

    I love burned pizza crust.

  • Did you all hear about how after the Jon Stewart Chicago Pizza throwdown, a Chicago Pizza Place in NY basically has been packed non-stop because people want to try it?

    I thought that was funny.
  • I always though Chicago style = deep dish. There's more to it than that?
    SQUIRREL!!!

    Yes, that is the truth.

In the UO people were saying that Chicago style pizza isn't good.  And I just felt that I had to say that Chicago people don't really actually like Chicago style pizza that much, but if you ask natives what their favorite Chicago style pizza is, they say Pequods.

    It doesn't make sense.
  • My fav place is Piece Pizza.  It's New England style, whatever that is.

I like to get chicken and mashed potatoes on mine.

Are you talking about New England Greek pizza? I'm not a fan. It's weird. New Haven and New York styles are the only acceptable pizza styles for me. Although I'm intrigued about this carmelized/burnt crust thing. I'd try it.
Oh shit.  I think it's New Haven.  I knew it was New something....but not New York.

    Yep
  • I think I'd be down with that if the sauce were gravy.

  • I think we do the white pizza that way. Just olive oil and garlic.

  • Lou Malnati's is good, but Pizano's = amazing pizza heaven.

  • I just can't get behind that much sauce. I want to peel the pepperoni off and eat it, though.

    TRUTH! But Lou Malnati's too!
  • That burnt crust looks delicious. I'd be happy with an entirely burnt pizza. Crispy cheese is my favorite.

I feel like all other hot dogs pale in comparison and I refuse to eat a Chicago style hotdog from any establishment that isn't actually in Chicago because they just let me down. DH and I drove 6 hrs just to get hot dogs in Chicago. We regret nothing.

Gene and Jude's has the best hot dogs in Chicago hands down. @dragonblood‌13
  • I got nothing. But I want all the pizza. And possibly a hot dog.
