recommend the best "first" sippy cup

my dr. recommended we start solids at his 4 mo. appt and its been going great.  the other day he was soooo interested in our glasses of water that we gave him some in one of my nephews sippy cups but of course the flow was way too fast for him.  is there a good "trainer" cup out there to teach him to drink from a sippy?  tia!

Re: recommend the best "first" sippy cup

  • we use playtex first sipsters.  We also removed the insert so he would get the "idea" that liquid flows from the spout.  Good luck.
  • Loading the player...
  • for dd we used the nuby, it's great because the spout is soft silicone. also it's the short stuby nuby not the longger one.. good luck!!
  • We also like the nuby best as a first cup.  It has a soft spout and DD did much better with that at 1st then the Gerber one we had with a harder spout.

  • Playtex.  We have tried the Nuby and Gerber ones but we stopped with the Gerber because the backwash is horrible (I was finding food in the cup) and the Nuby ones because they were too much like a bottle nipple it was confusing DD.
  • We like the Born Free training cup
  • we use a nuby, it has a flow gage on it, so it goes off how he drinks as to what he gets, fast, slow, medium...that sort of thing.

  • The only one we have had real success with so far is the nuby one with the soft straw.  We also have tried the avent soft spout and nuby soft spout.
