Freaking CONSTANT BH contrax

Every time I move, don't move, breathe, cough, pee, don't pee, stand up, sit down, I get BH contrax. Seriously. For about 5 days now. My doc has finally asked me to come in so she can feel my belly while I'm having them, which basically guarantees that either I won't have a single one the entire time I'm in there, or they won't be noticeable from the surface. Why the heck does she want to feel my belly instead of sending me to L&D for actual monitoring? Cripes. I feel a pointless copay coming on.

I had a day of nonstop BH contractions and the doctor had me come in that day and hooked me up to the fetal monitor (of course I didn't have a single contraction) for about 20 minutes.

Not sure how your insurance works, but we have a global maternity fee and the doctor encourages us to come into the office if there are any issues because it's covered under our prenatal care. He said any trips to L&D are not covered as prenatal care and will result in a substantial bill/copay/deductible, etc.

Could that possibly be a reason why the doctor would have you come in instead of going to L&D?

  • I had Braxton hicks about every minute yesterday so they had me come it. The monitor showed them, but they were super tiny according to the monitor. I got a cervix check out of it (woo hoo) and a transvaginal ultrasound at my BPP this morning (double yay) which all showed the Braxton hicks weren't doing anything at all, just making me uncomfortable.

  • I have had them more frequently, about 3 per hour. After some actually painful ones in my back and consitrncy they had me to come in and do a u/a and an NST. Of course I had one the whole time I was there! I feel your pain. Maybe lay on your side and chug the fluids.
  • any update @jenb_99? what did your doctor say?

  • I get them every 8-20min and have been for the last like 4 weeks or so. They suck.

  • I have them a lot as well. Driving in the car is the worst for me. Def my least favorite part of pregnancy. My midwife recommended a tincture called welcome womb by wish garden. Haven't tried it yet but can let you know when i do. Disclaimer-not suggesting that taking this tincture is a substitute for calling your doctor if you are concerned:)
  • Sorry to post and run earlier. It's been a busy day!

According to my doctor, even constant intense BH contrax are usually NBD. She did a fetal fibronectin swab to rule out PTL and a urine sample to rule out a UTI, but she said my cervix is locked up tighter than Ft. Knox (not a surprise, considering its complete refusal to cooperate at the end of my last pregnancy) and my vitals are fine, so no worries.

Her words: "Some women just get them all the time, and if you're one of them, sucks to be you, but it's just an annoyance and not something to be concerned about."

And she said the fetal fibronectin test is helpful in keeping women off bed rest unnecessarily, which I'm happy about since I have a 2-year-old to deal with. FX that it comes back negative.

  • Glad you are okay. I have had o take a ffn test as well with each pregnany and they come back neg and I just am someone who has tons of bh. Hope yours comes back negative as well.
  • Thanks, I hope so too. We had a tough experience last time bc DS had to spend a few days in NICU and I desperately want to avoid that again. I'm also not allowed to go into labor because I'm having a damaged baseball-sized ovary removed during my c-section, so we're taking every little sign seriously this time around.

  • Also, the reason she wants to lay hands on your belly is because external monitors at labor and delivery only tell when and how long your contractions are--- intensity has to be palpated.

I'd much rather go in to the office than pay for a l&d triage visit. It's practical and economical.

FWIW, my BH make my stomach rock hard but no change in my cervix thank goodness... It's just uncomfortable. I can commiserate.

I get them in the car, too! It's the weirdest thing. Happened a lot with my second, too. I try not to drive much lol

  • I had the same issue with DS 1 starting at 31 weeks and it's happening again with #2. My cervix isn't changing and they didn't register on the monitor so my OB said it was just an irritable uterus. I've found that wearing a support belt really helps. That and just constantly changing positions. I'm sorry I know how annoying they can be. Hopefully you can get some answers.

What's funny about this is that she didn't even touch my belly. She didn't check to see if I was actually having contractions, just took my word for it.

  • well, I'm glad that it's nothing that they are too concerned about. Hang in there. Hope everything goes as close to your plan as possible. Shitty about your ovary too! yikes!
