UO

Why hasn't this started yet today?

You know what to do...

  • I can't stand Kenny Chesney. All of his songs sound the same. DH is a huge fan and I just can't seem to like him.
  • Sorry to say it, yes.
She is just so shallow. I don't think there is a brain in that vacuous skull of hers.

It's cool, we all have our sappy teen songwriter girl crushes. You're entitled to your TS devotion. I was into Mariah Carey, and I went to a concert. She's deranged, but you have to admit the woman can really sing.
  • I don't get people who wear glasses for fashion reasons.  I hated wearing glasses growing up, why anyone would do it for the heck of it, is beyond my comprehension.  I unusually judge and think the person is a stupid person trying to look smart (that last part may tread into the muck of a FFC).

If I don't give you the back story to my UO, you're all going to think I'm even weirder than normal so here goes:  MIL watches Mia a couple of days a week and stays at our place because she lives 2 hours away.  We had the stomach bug last weekend (awful but feeling better now) and she said she was going to bring her gloves and disinfectant.  I thought she was kidding, but she wasn't.  She's currently running around our house cleaning doorknobs.

So my UO:  Unless I somehow manage to pee on my hands, I don't wash my hands after I pee.  It's not like I'm actually touching anything.  The exception is public restrooms.

ETA:  My MIL made me think of it because if I said it to her she'd probably disinfect me.

@cagoldi‌ True! MC is BSC and renews her vows at Disney World every year, I think, but the Emancipation of Mimi album got me through a rough breakup and it's still on my workout playlist. Haha.

My UO... I read about a town that is trying to ban outdoor smoking and think that's super stupid. I'm not a smoker, but, dudes, no one owns the air outside. Where are people supposed to smoke? Indoors, with their kids? Tobacco free zones, ok fine. Telling me I can't stand on my back porch and have a cigarette, freaking ridic.

ETA Maybe not a UO, but the news story on FB had 200 likes... so there are at least 200 who think it's a swell idea.

ETAA: The news outlet just ran a correction to this morning's story- they meant ban on smoking on city-owned property. Pretty key detail. Gotta love small town journalism.

I'm sorry but that's gross! Even my 9 year old takes the 30 seconds to wash her hands.
Fair enough.  It's funny because I'm sure I will make Mia do it.  But I just feel like if I'm home and I know my bathroom is clean and I am just touching toilet paper, then why?

So dumb. Not a smoker and hate being around cigarette smoke, but it's ridiculous to ban smoking outdoors. At that point you might as well make it illegal.

I just updated my UO to say the newspaper had the story wrong. It was for city-owned property only. Phew. I thought that town had lost its damn mind.

Even if you are just touching toilet paper (what about the handle to flush?) it is just good hygiene to wash your hands throughout the day!  I wash my hands all the time caring for LO even though we are just at home and DH washes his hands before he picks up LO after work.

We have a chain in our state-- or maybe they are everywhere-- called Right Time Kids. You can just drop your kid off there any time of day as like childcare/babysitter.

I think that's cray cray and I would never do it.

To me that's way different than interviewing an a day care facility, checking it out and having your child go there daily while you work-- this I'm ok with-- the other I'm not.

    Edited-- spelling.

That's why I said that I only do it at home, because I know my bathroom is cleaned/disinfected regularly.  And I do wash my hands throughout the day, it's not like I said I have sworn off washing them.  I don't wash my hands as soon as I get home before touching LO, we're just not that concerned with everyday germs (I don't know how else to phrase that).  If I go grocery shopping or somewhere that things are handled constantly, or if I worked in a different environment I might be more concerned.  LO has never been sick and DH and I very rarely are, so it works for us.  Different strokes for different folks.
  • Yea I never wash my hands after I pee. I use so much toilet paper there is no way I would even touch my vag. I clean my bathroom twice a week, including the flush handle, so I just really don't think I'm getting that many germs from even flushing. I probably get more germs from my remote control or cellphone than I do from anything in the bathroom. But that's just MO.
  • Here goes ::: putting on flame retardant helmet ::::

It irks me beyond belief when people who claim that they are not of a certain religion celebrate said religion's holidays. Example. I have friends who are atheist but they still celebrate all the Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter. By celebrate I don't mean go to that church service, but put up Christmas trees, make Easter baskets and egg hunts for their kids, give gifts and all that jazz. I've brought this up with them and others that do the same thing and it just turns into a big discussion on how the actual Christmas tree is not a religious symbol or whatever other facts they come up with to defend their position. I still think it comes down to that it's a holiday celebrating something you don't believe in so you shouldn't celebrate it.

I'm guilty of this.  It's not my style to get into where the symbols came from and blah blah blah, who cares?  We celebrate them more out of family tradition and celebrating being together as a family than anything else.

No flaming, but I guess I just don't understand why it bothers you. Clearly commercializaiton has taken over many holidays even for those who are religious, so what does it matter if non-religious people use it more as a celebration time with family than a religious celebration? Clearly a lifesize rabbit and colored eggs have nothing to do with the Christian celebration of Easter, so if non-Christians want to use that as an excuse to make traditions with their kids I don't care.

This. They've become so secularized I just can't get worked up about it.

And if Christians are hunting eggs and sitting on the Easter Bunny's lap they're celebrating pagan traditions.

I'm not flaming, disagreeing or anything of the sort-- just throwing something else out there...

Do you celebrate Halloween?? As in will you/do you let your child dress up and go trick or treating, or did you as a child? Same thing but in reverse right? Because some Christians would say Halloween started as a satanic thing which then turned into a commercialized thing with candy and costumes.

  • I am okay with people who are not religious celebrating Easter and Christmas.  I think it is kinda nice to have fun traditions that stand out to kids as being important to celebrate!

What gets me... all the people who show up to church 2 or 3 times a year.  Either you practice the religion or you don't!  Ash Wednesday isn't even a Holy Day of obligation and yet packed full of people who want to show off ashes on their forehead!

Last time I checked Christmas trees and Easter eggs were stolen from the pagans to get them to convert to Christianity. And it worked. The Christmas traditions we celebrate now aren't very old at all.

Actually Christmas Eve was a big drinking holiday until "a night before Christmas" was written and we invented the modern Santa.

We celebrate our holidays secularly and they are great traditions to spend time with our families and give back to the community.

  • In regards to Holidays. I prefer to do both and I don't think it makes me any more or less Christian. We go to Mass but also do Santa and the Easter Bunny. To each their own.

  • I don't like big weddings. I don't mean ones with a lot of people (some people just have huge families), I mean over-the-top weddings. When someone or their parents pay more for a wedding than a house, I think it's crazy.

Totally agree. Or even more for a wedding than for a car.

Good point, maybe it's the fact that they are commercialized and therefore making it a holiday not so focused on religious aspects that bothers me and when people go along with it, it just makes it more evident that that's how it is.

. I think this would be awesome. I would totally use it especially since I SAH I don't have a daycare or caregiver to use this way LO could get used to other adults and kids..
  • I don't care if they go to church or how often, just how they act the time in between services. I just started attending church again for the first time in 20 years. I fully admit that with my attention span I space off half the time and totally use the baby as a distraction. So even though I'm there I'm not exactly getting some deep religious experience out of it. It's more of a community thing for me. My relgious beliefs are very personal and I don't feel the need to celebrate them with others. So I think it's more of an individual thing with how people engage in their religion.

Go to church 2 times a year, go 365 times, I don't care, just don't be an a-hole when not in church or use relgious beliefs as an excuse to discriminate.

I can agree with that.  There is nothing more hypocritical to me than a person who practices a religion loving God but then doesn't even live by the Golden Rule!

  • I think I usually wash my hands at home after I pee, but I can't say ALWAYS. Especially if LO is screaming or I'm in a rush for whatever other reason.

I'm not super religious, but we do celebrate Easter/christmas but it's more of an excuse to have a large family get together. Sure we could do that any old day of the year, but holidays are the only time everyone is off work. My family is catholic and goes mass every week, but I'm not packing like a sardine in there on christmas. Sorry not sorry.

We spent about 4K on my wedding, which was dress, 70 people at a cheesy wedding chapel in downtown last Vegas, a big buffet dinner and then we went out dancing afterwards. Wouldn't want it any other way.

Totally hate "emergency c section" show me your scar, if it doesn't cover the entirety of your abdomen it wasn't an emergency it just wasn't planned. I also can't stand when people ask me if I delivered naturally (referring to Vaginally) to me naturally would be med free and the answer to that is HECK NO!!

My UO - I EBF and don't give LO the vitamin D drops. We go on short walks almost daily, take the dog to the park on the weekends. From what I've read as long as she's getting a little sun in here and there it isn't necessary.
  • I don't know if this is a UO or if it's flame-worthy or just more of a pet peeve, but I think an awful lot of women say they had an "emergency" c-section because it sounds more dramatic when what they really mean is "unplanned," which is not the same thing.

Agreed. My LO was born via unplanned c-section. He refused to be born so doc made him come out.

I was born emergency c-section. My mom was Laboring normally and my heart suddenly stopped. They did the emergency c-section and were able to revive me.

Did I ever tell you I'm enemies with Steven Tyler? He invited me backstage, I tripped him and he uninvited me. That's the short version.
Haha! That's awesome!!! His psycho fiancé told me to fuck off at a concert! I was in the front row and he told me that I reminded him of an ex. She was sitting on the side of the stage and didn't find that amusing apparently. How funny we both have ST drama. Small world!
