My credit union needs to get with the times

I got an email about refinancing a loan and it sounded good.  I responded, without personal info (and the email address when you hover had the "right" extension, kwim?).  Anyway, to proceed I need to give them a lot of personal information and obviously I'd only do that over the phone but then I got paranoid that maybe it was a phishing scheme.  I called the number and what does the recording say?  "Welcome to your credit union."  Not "Welcome to ACTUAL NAME OF THE CREDIT UNION."  That made me more paranoid lol  So I called what I know is the legit main number and was able to find this person in the dial by name directory so she IS legit but come on.  Could they make the recording sound less like "I'm trying to steal all your money and your identity"  ???

Re: My credit union needs to get with the times

  • Yikes! I worked at a credit union for a few years before I had DD2. We always made sure to put in the name of the institution and we were clear about making sure to tell our members not to give out personal information unless it was clear it was from us. That whole situation really and truly does scream "scam" all over the place.

Right??  I'm telling them that when I talk to her lol  It makes it sound like they want to come across as all the credit unions for all the scammer emails they sent.
