Nursing Mothers Room

Do you pump alone or with someone in the nursing mothers room at work?

I ask because at one of the sites I work at they have a nursing mothers room.  There is a sign on the door that says vacant or occupied.  When I go in I move to occupied and if it says occupied I do not enter.  Well yesterday I was in the room about to take off my shirt when this chick I have never met comes walking in and proceeds to take off her shirt and pump.  I really don't mind pumping in front of other people but I didn't think it was the norm.  I am guessing if you have a certain schedule or meetings to work around you would have to pump with whomever was in there.  Just thought I would ask.

    The lactation rooms at my job accommodate 2 people, but they have curtains to separate us. I don't fault anyone who is comfortable pumping in front of others at work, but I wouldn't be personally. I supposed if I didn't have a choice I'd just do what I have to do.

    So if there is an option to accommodate 2 people why is there an option to mark the room as occupied? They should make two stalls enclosed in curtains and if both are occupied the third person would have to come back. IMO it was rude for her to walk in if the door said occupied.

    It is really nice! However, at the second site I have to go to part time I have to pump in my car.

    Technically two people could fit in our room, but we go one at a time. We just check with eachother before going in. There's a lock on the door too.

    I work at a school and last year there were 8 people who either had a baby during the year or got pregnant (I was last of the 8). Three of us are still nursing (I go back tomorrow) so while it wasn't this originally, there is now a designated pumping room. I could care less if anyone is with me, but courtesy would be to ask...

    That's nice. I use my classroom, lol. I tape a Do Not Disturb sign on the door and hope for the best.

    We have 4 new mom rooms that are single person rooms that have desk station, sink, fridge, and badge acces to get in. We have our rooms setup on Outlook calendars so you can see when it's occupied and send meeting notice to it.

    That's awesome! You're so lucky to have all of that!
