Anyone have to go back after A/S?

Just had my A/S and everything looked good though they couldnt get one shot of the heart they needed. Though they said all looks great and just wanted a clearer picture (babys arm was in the way), Im still a bit freaked out theres something wrong. Just needing some reassurance. Anyone else have something similar happen? PS Team Pink!! :)

Re: Anyone have to go back after A/S?

  • I got flagged down in the parking lot once to go back and get some shots.  Totally freaked me out.  No biggie at all in the end.  The heart's important and they want to cover their liability.  Nothing to be worried about.  Just enjoy the extra peak.  Congratulations on the girl!

  • Same thing happened to me. I'm sitting in the waiting room right now waiting to repeat my a/s. They said everything is fine and I shouldn't worry, but they couldn't get a good picture of the baby's heart. She kept moving away every time they tried to get a picture.

  • I have to go back as well because the baby was sitting/laying butt down during the A/S and they couldn't get the pics of the baby's spine/butt that they wanted. I'm looking at it as another opportunity to see the little one! We aren't finding out the sex but the tech said that she knew what it was...so exciting.

  • My little girl was sleeping almost the whole a/s, so I have to go back at my next monthly appointment so they can get a look at the spine and one of the feet. It seems like it's pretty common with uncooperative babies.

can somebody remind me again what you can do to encourage baby to be active?  there was some discussion in another thread about full vs. empty bladder (guess each office has their own preferance??)   Isn't drinking a big deal of cold water or a some other drink supposed to be wake up baby?
I've been told by many to drink Mt. Dew before an ultrasound. I'm not a big Mt. Dew person and I'm not sure if that is the answer, but I might try it.

I was told by a pregnant friend that she chugged a huge OJ and her baby was rocking and rolling. I did the same and mine still slept  almost the whole time. After the tech shook her up a bit, we got a yawn and finally a crotch shot. I think I just may have a lazy baby though.

  • Same thing for me.  Little fellow was moving around too much to capture two of the heart shots.  The doctor said not to be concerned, everything looked fine...except for having an extremely squirmy one in there!
  • I am going in tomorrow for my follow up, since baby was not willing to show off his spine. It is nothing to worry about!

  • I ate breakfast tacos right before I went in and baby was wiggling like crazy.

  • I had mine today and baby was folded up like a taco! His toes were literally touching his head. I have to go back now because they couldn't get a shot of his lower spine. I'm a little worried but they kept telling me he's fine - hell stretch out if he needs to. I go back in 2 weeks. Try not to worry!

  • The tech said she was having trouble getting one image and went out to show the doctor what she had. The doctor came in and also tried to get the shot but the baby's arm was right over the portion of the heart they needed, or made some sort of shadow that didn't make it clear. Thanks for all your input, makes me feel better for sure! :)
  • I have to go back in a month also due to a low lying placenta. Boo. Baby was sleeping and wouldn't show her face so they need a good pic of that too.
  • Yes I got my A/S last week and could see any fluid in the stomach. So we went back yesterday and there it was a perfect stomach so don't worry to much. If they were able to see it at the NT scan. Is just that baby wasn't cooperating. Good luck
  • I almost had to go back for a second look at the heart with my last pregnancy because of the position baby was sleeping in.  But right as she was about to quit, he did a stretch and roll, and they were able to get the shot.

Like others have said, the baby was probably just in a bad position for the shot.  I will keep my fingers crossed for you though! And let us know how it turns out :)

  • Even though I have had genetic testing, I'm terrified of the anatomy scan (going for the first time) on 4/11. I'm terribly excited and terribly nervous. I think this is something I will have to go to my zen place (pray, read, positive thoughts, meditation, yoga) to get through. I'm sure all is fine with you; worrying won't solve anything. That's what I tell myself anyway:-)

  • DS had fluid in his kidney, I went back for a 32 week follow up scan (such a long wait) and it was gone, thanks goodness.

  • They couldn't get a pic of the stomach. The tech told us either the baby just 'eliminated' or was too wiggly to get the entire thing in one shot.
She also marked on there to get a better pic of the face next time. We have the most uncooperative kids when it comes to u/s.

  • I am also team pink and have to go back for the same reason. They need a better picture of her heart. It is hard not to worry. My baby girl is also a wiggler and wouldn't stay still!

So those of you that have to go back....Did you find out right away, i.e. the tech had you reschedule?  Or did you have to wait until you saw your doctor and he/she requested more images?

The tech told me right away that I might get a call to come back. She wasn't sure if the pictures would be good enough or not. 2 days later I got a call from the doctors office saying I needed to come back.

  • I have to go back bc the baby's hands were in front of his face so they couldn't get the face shots they needed.

  • I'm thinking I may have to come back, my child is very active and squirms a lot apparently my OB comments on it a lot. One thing he almost always makes visible? His weiner. I got to see his spine and one hand yesterday.
  • Congrats on everything looking good and finding out you're having a girl. I just had to return yesterday after my AS two weeks ago for the same issue. Baby girl did not cooperate for good heart shots the first time. She did great and showed us a perfect heart this time and they got the pics. I hope it works similar for you.
  • I have to go back in a few weeks to see if my placenta has moved up. T&P it does.

  • We have to go back because she has two-vessel umbilical cord and her kidneys were a little dilated. My placenta was also a little bit lower then they want it and they wanted to get some better shots of her heart. I understand being nervous--we are too! I just try to remember that our doctor said that she's not worried, and if she's not, then I'm not going to be either (or try not to be!).

  • I had to go back with my first because the couldn't get all the pictures of his spine. I almost had to go back with this one, but the OB was able to get the picture of his mouth they needed at the last min. They would tell you if you needed to come back for a reason you needed to worry about. I saw it as a reason to see my baby again before birth, since the a/s is usually the last one you have.

  • I had my first midwife appointment last week, and signed for them to receive my ultrasounds. The midwife called today and asked if the Dr. Had gone over my last ultrasound at all before she faxed it. She mentioned there's a small hole in baby boy's heart :( and that she wants to order me another ultrasound 32+ weeks to see if it's just repaired itself. Thanks for the heads up, Dr.
