Hi ladies! I'm new to this board...my lo was born early sat morning at 36+5...she was doing perfectly fine until we failed the carseat test...she is fine while laying flat but desats when in carseat due to slight head lag...they are doing a pneumogram as we speak...dr thinks it's just from slight head lag from being premature...we have to buy a flat carseat...anyone with any insight would be much appreciated! Thank u all!
Re: Failed carseat
When we got to the car seat test point the nurses told us we couldn't have any type of after market inserts either. We bought the Chicco Keyfit 30 Magic, which seemed to have a slightly beefier infant support system.
OP - Are you referring to those bed like car seats? I'm not familiar with them myself, but I know they're often used in the (rare) cases when a baby is discharged at or below 4lbs, weights below which most, if not all, car seats are rated.
Not sure if that seat is sold in Canada?
I just wanted to ditto that nothing extra should be added to the car seat. There should not be anything between the seat and the baby that didn't come with the carseat. The rolled up blankets are ok because they are not put between the baby and the seat, just on the sides to help support.
We had a Chicco Keyfit and my daughter was just over 5 lbs at discharge. Good luck!
We had a follow car seat test a month after he was discharged and he passed in the keyfit at that point and life has been much easier since. Good luck to you I feel your frustration just try to keep in mind that you are just trying to keep your LO safe!!
Pp's already said what I was going to. We had the keyfit 30 and it was awesome. Ds left when he was under 5 lbs and he was nice and snug. Car beds are a last resort IMO and not nearly as safe as car seats. Also they aren't a long term fix so how would you know when to switch to a car seat? I know you want baby home and even a day is horrible but maybe LO will pass next time. Good luck!!
Anyway, I requested they retest my youngest, they took out all the pads, etc and she passed with no issues.
