October 2014 Moms

I can't believe this happened.....

I haven't posted here before but I have been lurking.  I'm expecting my second baby on Oct. 6th and I wanted to share my story with you.

I went to my standard 10 week appt with pap and std testing and two days later the OB called and said I tested positive for chlamydia.  I was shocked I've been happily married for 5 years and have a 20 month old.  I talked to my husband and he too was shocked I've never doubted his commitment to me until that day.  I knew I had not cheated so my mind started wondering of what he may have done.

I called my OB back the next day asking about the test accuracy and/or the possibilty of lab error. She told me that there is always a chance it's slim but there is still a chance and recommended we both get retested.

We both went in and retested it was a long week wait because of the weekend I was very upset because I didn't understand what could be happening to my marriage.  I got a call today from the nurse at the clinic that we both tested negative it was a false positive........

I want to share this with you because this is scary and really happens and could ruin a marriage. I feel aweful that I ever doubted my husband and he never accused me and always told me he trusted me.

Re: I can't believe this happened.....

  • Happy to hear there was a positive ending to your story :) It is scary how false/positives could be devastating to a relationship.

I just found women's underwear in our closet that are not mine.. I don't think.
I honestly would trust that I'm having a bout of dementia and forgot I owned that pair, before I ever thought my husband was up to something behind my back like that.

  • Oh wow, I couldn't imagine the stress. I am glad it came back negative and I am hoping your husband understands you were worried and do trust him.

  • Holy cow. I wouldn't have been anywhere near as calm as you. Even though like you, I very highly doubt my husband would ever cheat. We had a hard time when I had an abnormal pap last year caused by HPV. He had to hear from the doc that most people actually have it, and it can just hang out without causing issues for years and years.
Thank goodness it was a false positive for you!

  • That's so crazy! I'm glad you 2 trusted each other enough to know the test was probably wrong. Some would trust the test over their spouse and it could definitely ruin a marriage.

  • That must have been such an emotional roller coaster for you... yikes!! I'm glad that the story has a happy ending.
  • Oh my gosh.  I'm so glad you retested.  I have zero reason to think DH would ever be unfaithful and I trust him wholeheartedly.  But I have to say a positive STD test would give me doubts and I would have completely freaked out.  Glad you kept your cool!  Thanks for sharing.  That is just crazy.

  • It's been a very rough week.....  I found it uneasy that when I started looking into it online that there seemed to be quite a few similar stories.  Which makes me wonder the true accuracy of the tests I never want to go back to the lab again.
  • Yikes, that's crazy. Glad it was a false alarm.

Although, I will say that even if it was a true positive, it wouldn't necessarily mean your husband cheated on you because people can have chlamydia and not know it because it usually doesn't have any symptoms. So, it would be possible for him to have gotten it before you two were together and just not known. Obviously that's not the case since it ended up being a false positive, but still.
This is true but I know in my state they have to test with every pregnancy and they have another child. Op thank goodness you retested what a nightmare!

  • On man that is stressful.  I would have been side-eyeing the hell out of DH!

Last night I was coming home from visiting with my mom and decided to swing by his shop since I was in that area of town.  For a split second my mind went crazy  thinking I would find out if he wasn't there or if someone was there with him. (this shop is not an ideal hookup spot to say this least!)

I have zero reason to not trust him but my brain went there anyway.  He was there all by himself working away.  I ended up grabbing us some McDonald's and eating with him.

I can't imagine what my brain would have done of I had a false positive or even worse a positive for an std.  Glad that it all worked out ok.  Geesh!

  • Whoa, that really sucks. So glad that everything turned out okay for you. Definitely stressful. I think you had a pretty natural reaction and you handled it better than I would have.

  • That's really good that you got retested and that it turned out to be a false positive. I'd be pretty upset to find out about an STI under these circumstances.

  • Wow, that is crazy!! I'm so sorry you and your DH went through that, but glad it had a happy ending! Earlier this year I had a super painful rash on my thigh. Went to the dermatologist, and the first thing she said was, have you been exposed to herpes? My response was, I BETTER NOT HAVE BEEN!!! Turns out it was shingles, which anyone who has had the chicken pox can get. Not fun, but a big relief it wasn't herpes. Oh the joys of false STI alarms!
