Baby sling

Which baby sling would you get from Kohl's? I have $20 Kohl's cash and was thinking of getting one.

Or is there a better one at Target?

They all look the same to me! Are they?

Re: Baby sling

  • Personally I wouldn't get any of those. They are all a little too "pouchy" for me. I have a maya wrap and really like it. It is a "ring sling." A lot of those pictures also have babies in bad positions. Some of the ones you posted are "hot slings," hot slings are fine for what they are, they're quick and easy in and out, for example, but they're not adjustable so if you're having problems getting a comfortable fit you're basically just sol.

Here's some info on how to use slings safely.

  • I got a hot sling with my first, and it was ok but not awesome.  I found a Moby wrap at a consignment store ($20!) and I'm going to try that for baby #2, I've heard good things.
  • I agree with avoiding "peanut" slings.  They are not terribly comfortable and terrible to try to position baby in.  I also have a Maya wrap that I love.  It is so much safer too.  I have a Girasol woven wrap as well.  That is well worth the investment since it will be used until toddlerhood.  A Mei Tai is also an option for newbies that is easily adjustable.
If you can tie a slip knot, you can use good woven shawls you may already have.  I have a ton of pashmina like silk/cashmere blend shawls that I used with my first when she was bitty.  It was easy.  I tied a slip knot and placed her in and tightened her into place.  She fit for longer than I expected and it was a "free" carrier.  You can always find fun woven shawls at thrift store and consignment shops too!
