Do you still use the Diaper Genie?

For those of you who got it, I am not sure if it's worth buying these refills all the time.  Did you switch to something else that you like--that doesn't require refills?

Re: Do you still use the Diaper Genie?

  • We still use it. I don't think the refills are that expensive, considering. I've had no need to switch.

  • I've been putting B's dirty diapers in the garbage for about 8 or 9 months now. It was more of hassle. His poop diapers aren't that bad that I can't have them in the main garbage. He's into helping throw it away too so it kind of fun for him.

  • We only have it up in her room, and we have the Arm & Hammer one.  I plan to continue using it through #2.  I usually score super good deals on diapers.com for refills.  In fact, since she's been born I haven't bought a refill because the one we bought originally had 54 bags in it.

  • With three in diapers, yes.

  • I use it for poopy diapers only. I wish it held more at once. I'll need to get another one for Camden's room.

How many diapers would you say yours holds before you change it? Not get a new refill but till you get the old diapers out and tie a new knot.

  • Yes. I have the one that I got from my baby shower with keagan. So I've been using it for over 4 years. We buy the refills at bj's when they have the coupon so I don't find it that expensive. The 3 pack I get from bj's lasts about 3 months. Sometimes I just put pee diapers in the household trash, but 75%of his diapers still go in it.

  • We have used the diaper dekor plus all along, and will continue to use it.  It makes a huge difference in smell and saves me from running outside every time a kid poops.  I've actually been impressed with how long the refill bags last, esp with 2 in diapers.  (I think the cartridge holds 1160 diapers.)

I did have to put a febreze stick and refresh and baking soda in there after DD started solids, but I'm sold on using diaper pails.

I have an Ubbi that uses regular bags, but yes we still use it.

We have this one too. It was gifted to us along with several refills. I have only bought 2 refills thus far. That said, L has some nasty smelling poop, so those go in doggie bags and then outside. They rarely stay in the diaper pail. Using the pail though, means that we empty the rest of the diapers once a week and her room stays smelling clean.

If I really stuff it, about 10-15. I think. I usually change it once a week or so.

  • We have the munchkin one and still use it. I recently bought another for 2.0 so we'll be buying refills for the foreseeable future.

  • Heck yes, but I have the Arm & Hammer one.  It prevents 100% of the odor and we pack it as full as it can get.  Totally worth it.

I don't like the diaper genie.  I have the kitty litter version, and yuck.

Yep, Hannah's dirty diapers are basically hazardous waste and it does a good job of masking the smell.

The refills are pretty cheap on amazon prime.

  • We still use the diaper genie. We use the litter locker refills. Same thing, except cheaper.

  • We have the Ubbi and I am really pleased with it. For what that's worth :)

  • I bought a case of refills right at the beginning on sale. I will use it until those are gone. Poop diapers go in a special garbage can outside though. Toddler crap smells horrible and no diaper genie can contain that.

  • I also have seen people somehow make their own refills. I may try that. Not for kids though - maybe for dogpoop bags later on, when it doesn't matter and the whole contraptions gets to live outside with the garbage cans or something.

  • We still use a genie in E's bedroom. Mostly for poop diapers. Wet ones go in the garbage a lot now. My garbage can gets stinky, so we try to keep the poop ones out so it's not terrible! If we do throw a poop diaper in the trash can, I'll use a little arm & hammer scented bag that I keep in E's diaper bag to wrap it first.
