Late Term and Child Loss

Follow up with doc

Tomorrow is my 2 week follow up. I should be having my 20 week appt instead it is this.

Is there anything I need to or should ask at this point? We are waiting for pathology before seeing the MFM then RE. I'm not looking to TTC right away. I'm proactive at this point and want to have everything set before making any decisions.

(I hope you don't mind that I asked this here. I'm not sure where to ask this).

Re: Follow up with doc

  • I had my one week follow up today I can't say I have much advice on the right questions to ask, my fiancé and I stumbled a bit thru the appointment but i did request a vaginal ultrasound because I wanted to make sure I'm healing properly since we do intend on TTC again - there wasn't much he could tell me this early except I still have more healing to do but he did assure me that nothing looked off, as in nothing is 'wrong with me' for the future of TTC again which I think was what I needed to hear. I also went thru questioning again what could of possibly went wrong which now seems redundant because I've asked them this in the hospital and know they won't know until they get the tests back for signs of infection. I also asked about a need for a cerclage next time and he didn't think that was the issue but will have me see a specialist when we are ready to try again. And at the end of the examination I asked them to help fill out paperwork for additional time off work thru FMLA which he said they could do. I go back to the doc in another 2 weeks for another check up and to make sure the fluid is going away as well as any clots left that they saw thru the US. I would tell you though that if you are requesting or they are giving you a ultrasound to hang in there because it is hard - I kept my eyes closed and looked at the screen for a second which I probably should not have done... it was extremely hard for both my fiancé and I but something I chose to do and felt had to do today. let us know how it goes xoxo

  • Hoping for a big surprise for you that your pathology report is back. It was hard going back into my MFM's office. Is your DH going with you?

  • No advice here - I am notoriously bad at asking questions when I'm there.  Usually I have a ton of questions after the appointment, once I've had time to think everything over and do some research.  You'll probably have some questions as you move along through the appointment.  I just wanted to give you support - good luck.
  • so sorry you are going through this.

one thing I always do is I write down a list of things I want to ask, because once I get in there I forget major things.  I don't know the cause of you losing your LO but i had lots of questions about my specific situation.  Even though you aren't planning on ttcing for a while you may want to ask questions about  a safe timeline for you to do so and what sort of plan would be put in place next time.  I asked a lot of questions about things I was blaming her death on that I did, and it was good to have a medical professional reassure me that it wasn't my fault.

one thing I wasn't prepared for was how emotional the appointment was.  i was kind of looking at it as some sort of a milestone in my grief and it ended up being a really hard day emotionally.  I cried for a long time in the car after I left and then went home and lost it all over again. For some reason I wasn't expecting it to make me so emotional but it did.

    so many ((hugs)) to you.

  • Ditto @marylaurena‌ I agree with all of that
  • Thank you everyone for your advice. I suspect it had to do with my placenta since I was having issues with it throughout. I do have a strong history of clotting in the family so I do want to discuss it with him. Without the pathology it will be hard to say what exactly is the cause though.

The past 2 days have been rough. I'm expecting this appt to not be easy. My husband will be coming with me.
