Baby measuring small at 36 weeks

I had a growth scan today, baby boy is measuring at the 13 % percentile, at a small 4 lbs 4 ounces.
It's hard to stay positive when I'm doing everything they tell me to. I'm on bed rest, I've upped my food and water intake (within my diabetic diet) I just feel like a failure.

  • It is hard not to blame yourself but there are do many other factors. Hang in there.

  • 13% isn't too bad. IUGR isn't diagnosed until below the 10th. Was this your first growth ultrasound? If growth US were started in the 2nd tri and growth was plotted, they can be more accurate. If it was the first one since the anatomy, it may be inaccurate. Baby might be bigger than you're expecting. Lots of luck!

  • In week 38, I was losing weight and they did a growth scan. They said my baby would be 5 pounds and he came out 2 days later at 7 lbs 12 oz! Even if your little guy is measuring small I was born 30 years ago at 3lbs 14 oz and I was ok! Try not to worry too much!

  • I am going through the same thing. I am 30weeks my DD is measuring 26 weeks. I will be praying for you two. *hugs*
  • I was diagnosed with IUGR at 35 weeks.  Baby was measuring in the 2nd percentile.  I drank a lot of water and ate a lot of protein to try to grow him.  Don't know if it worked or not but I had him at 37 weeks and he ended up being 4 lbs, 15 oz and didn't need any NICU time.  So your baby might be small but healthy.  Good luck!
  • Hang in there!  It sounds like you're doing everything you can, so don't beat yourself up.  I was diagnosed with IUGR (which it sounds like you don't have it since you're above 10%) around 35 weeks.  My son was delivered at 37 weeks and was only 3 1/2 pounds.  He's over 9 months now and 19lbs.  Just follow your doctor's orders and rest.  Good luck :)
