Help! Baptism lunch...

For the first time we're in a house big enough to host DH's huge family, so we're having them over after Julia's baptism on Sunday.  I'm looking at 10 kids and 8 adults for lunch.  I was thinking a ham, mac and cheese, salad, potatoes, corn, and have the guests bring the deserts.  Does that sound kid-friendly enough?  Would you do something different?
Thanks!

  • I think that sounds good other than having guests bring desserts but if that's something standard for your area then go for it!

  • Menu sounds good! We got a Costco cake for Nate's baptism for dessert.

Sounds perfect. I wouldn't ask guests to bring dessert either. It is standard here to have cake after the baptism.

  • Sounds good to me!
For Nancy's baptism I made almost everything, but 1 sister brought a fruit salad, 1 brought a green salad and my Mom brought cupcakes.  I wouldn't ask my aunts or anything, but my sisters and Mom always volunteer, or just show up with things.

I don't think I've ever been to a family gathering where people don't bring something.  Even when I say "nah, don't bring anything" they still show up with an appetizer or a dessert. :-)

Same here. I'd probably do cake and fruit. The rest of the menu sounds fine and definitely kid-friendly enough.

By "guests" I meant MIL offered to bring a chocolate eclair cake... it's not standard to ask non-family to bring anything, but it's standard for family to bring something just because our family gatherings get so big.

I could definitely put together a fruit plate and pick up a sheet cake too though.  Thanks!

ETA: follow up question- Can I put the ham in to bake at a low temp while we're at church so it won't take too long to be ready afterward?  A lot of people will have a 3 hour drive to get home, so I didn't want to draw lunch out too late...

I think you probably could. You could also eat ham cold though.
