If you had a week to prepare

Contractions came back with a passion today, and I went to see my OB. We're maxing out my Procardia regimen, but he says my next recourse is modified bed rest. Since my fFN came back negative when I was in L&D last week, he's giving me one week to go to work, wrap things up, and prepare to be homebound for the remainder of my pregnancy.

I haven't been on bed rest or modified bed rest with my previous two pregnancies. I have no idea what to do this week to prep, if anything. I currently have a cross-stitch project and active Netflix and Hulu+ accounts. I can take care of grocery shopping online and have the store deliver. DS1 can go to daycare while H is at work. What else should I be thinking of?

No pets, but I could really use a hair cut. And so could DS1.

  • Chore delegation and general household maintenance. Hands down the hardest part of bed rest for my husband and I are the little things that I have always taken care of (we've been married 10 years and he moved straight from his parents home to my apartment- so he's never had full household responsibility)- which I can no longer take care of. Because they're not ingrained in DHs habits, he has no mental alarm that goes off to do them. Things like- cat litter, doing the laundry, and grocery shopping were tricky but the real trickiest came out after 3-4 weeks when things I didn't even realize we're "my" tasks until I was suddenly no longer able to do them. Clipping the cats claws, spritzing down the shower every few weeks with cleaner, keeping an eye on all of the household cleaners and restocking things like dish soap, laundry detergent, and furniture polish- since I'm no longer doing those chores on bed rest I don't keep track of ANY of the under the cabinet stuff- DH just does the chores mindlessly until the cleaning product runs out and then it takes him a week or more to remember to buy a replacement. It's the little things really.

  • I was going to say housekeeping and laundry. Do you have family or can you hire someone to do them? Will be keeping you in my thoughts!
  • I'm on strict bed rest and taking Procardia. I wasn't given a week to prepare so I went in to work the next day and stayed to get things ready for a sub.

Lately I've been watching netflix, shopping online, and taking it easy. DS is bounced between family after his 3x/week 3 hour preschool class. DH has done the shopping and I've stayed in the car with DS just so I can get out a time or two. I still throw things in the wash and pickup stuff around the house but just when I start to feel contractions, I immediately lay down!

We have cleaners who come twice a month, and DH ha already taken on most of the laundry duty since we schlep up and down 2 flights of stairs. I fold, but I'm thinking I'll still be able to do that from bed.

Thanks for the guidance ladies; I'm not sure exactly how much they'll be restricting my movement, so I want to be ready for anything.

  • Will you need someone to take DS1 to/from daycare? If you were planning on making freezer meals maybe you should get those done. Do you have the essentials to bring baby home ( crib, sheet, diapers, wipes, some clothes?)
