Slapped cheek

Has anyone had any experience with this? It's apparently a virus that's relatively not serious, but Astin came home from daycare looking like this...

She's acting normal with no fever, so I'm just going to watch it for now.

Re: Slapped cheek

  • Aww poor girl, that looks so sore!! Could it be teething though? I know that can cause red cheeks too. I have never heard of slapped cheek, glad it's nothing serious though.

  • I was just researching that illness...fifth disease right? I thought Emily had it. Nothing can be done about it, you just treat it like a cold and watch for high fever. I remember reading once the rash appears the kid is no longer contagious.

  • I hate to love it Foxy, but def looks like twinsies to me! Hope C feels better too. Any fever or anything? I took Astin's a couple of times and she was normal

  • Poor babies! Hope it's not making them uncomfortable.
  • Aww poor baby! I've never heard of this. Is it only on one cheek usually? Or both sometimes?
  • My kids have this right now too. DD1 has red cheeks, a rash and had a really bad fever and congestion. DD2 just has the red cheeks and the congestion and a little cough. The pediatrician said to just keep an eye on the baby, but as long as she is eating and making dirty diapers and no wheezing, it's fine.

I googled the symptoms and it sounds like fifth disease, which is a common virus.
