Forgot pump tubing at home!

Forgot pump tubing at home! Help!

I don't have the extra money to go buy new tubing or a manual pump. Any ideas??

Will I ruin my supply if I just hand express today?

My son is 3 months old. I fed him last at 6 am.

Re: Forgot pump tubing at home!

  • can you go home to get the tubing and then come back to work? or just take half a sick day? I'd be concerned about the discomfort and/or causing a blocked duct. yes, you could hand express, but it takes way longer and is not as efficient as the pump.

  • Loading the player...
  • I work an hour from home, so I can't just run home unfortunately.

I might try to leave early, but we don't get sick days. I've used almost all of my PTO for the year because of weather, maternity leave, and surgery (I just got back last week)
  • I had that happen once- forgot the 'cones', not the tubing. I tried to hand express and it was SO painful by the end of the day, I was miserable, engorged, and my breasts were bruised form trying to express. I spent probably 3+ hours in the "Mothers Room" trying to express that day. In retrospect, I should have just given up and gone home after lunch.
  • that's a bummer...

are you near a hospital? if you call and ask to speak to a lactation consultant or nurse in L&D, they may have parts available to sell- I know it's hard to find the tubing in stores. or maybe they'd take pity on you and just give you some tubing!

I've also heard that the tubing for aquarium pumps is the same thing and much cheaper- if you are near a target or wal-mart or pet supply store, you could try looking for that. I think you need the tubing and the connector for the end, but they would probably have both.

  • Oh that's a bummer--what did you wind up doing? I'm just waiting for the day that I forgot pump parts! Last week I forgot bottles to pump into so I had to pump into the 35 ml screw on cup that I had randomly stashed in the pump bag. I pump 6.5 ounces so it was quite messy and tedious, but it worked!

  • @eggmankate I ended up trying to hand express. The first time in the morning was a major fail. I was able to hand express about 6 oz from noon-4 (I left work 2 hours early to get home to my lovely son and pump). I was absolutely miserable all day - very engorged.

My solution is I'm going to get a hand pump to leave in my desk just in case this ever happens again.

Sorry this happened to you -- I've been there! I have the Medela Harmony for backup and I love it. Just a suggestion FWIW.
