Family Routines/Standing Dates

Do you have standing dates for certain events each month? I.e. you always have pancakes on Saturday, or date night the second Saturday of each month, or every Thursday is pizza night, or whatever?

Now that I'm a SAHM, I can see how you can almost forget which day it is! Just looking for ideas to help structure the time a little more, even though I'm highly unlikely to stick to a schedule! I do think DH and I would love some more regular date nights.

Re: Family Routines/Standing Dates

  • Thursday used to be movie night but then DD started having dance until 6:30. We do try to have pizza once a week and a movie night once a week.

  • We do, it gives us all things to look forward to! We do 'Daddy Pancakes' on Sunday mornings (and mom gets to sleep in / have alone time until they are ready). We also have spaghetti night on Fridays. We are trying to add a date night to our routine, but are having issues finding a babysitter.

  • Friday is pizza night. I usually make pancakes or waffles on Saturday mornings, but sometimes it gets pushed back to Sunday.

  • DH works swing shifts and is on call a certain amount of days so his schedule is always changing. We schedule different things like a date night or a boys night (for him and the kids) but the days change monthly based on his work schedule and when we can get a sitter.
  • The only thing that's really concrete is a dinner/games night on the last Saturday night of each month at our house for our parents and siblings. We've been doing that for a couple years now and it's really fun, I totally look forward to it.

Other than that, not really. I always a breakfast that takes a little more effort on Saturdays, but it's rarely the same thing... eggs benedict, or waffles, etc.

  • We have family dinner with BIL/SIL every Sunday evening. We alternate houses/cooks every week. We also watch shows together with them after the kids are all in bed. L has a bed over there and we live next door. So we always do shows at their house. Friday evening we usually get takeout and do our grocery shopping. Other than that, nope.
Because you're mine, I walk the line....

  • We usually have pizza on Friday nights and pancakes on Sunday mornings. I am pretty regimented about what classes I attend at the gym each day. Preschool is always T/Th. DH plays in a rec league on Tuesdays.
  • We usually have breakfast for dinner every Sunday night.  Just something easy (and usually, DH makes it!)

We have pizza on Friday night and waffles on Sunday. Dh makes breakfast in Saturday and Sunday. He and I have a standing NCIS/NCIS la date on Tuesday nights. We also hit up or favorite coffee shop evey time they have bogo without fail. As dd gets list if like to do a game night or movie night. We have plenty of weekly activities too, Wednesday night is daddy daughter date night, Monday is storyline/library day. Idk, I don't have trouble tracking the days, but I love routine.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • We will usually do pancakes, french toast, cinnamon rolls, something yummy for breakfast on which ever weekend morning is the least busy.  Other than that, not really.  Before DD1 was in all day kinder, she would go to my IL's on Fridays and play and then we would come over for dinner.  We don't really do that anymore, especially since we have to be home to have the baby in bed by 7-7:30.

Growing up, we always had pizza on Fridays.

  • We don't really live by a schedule, but we have a few things we do at the same days each week... if that counts?  Every Tuesday we get takeout. Every Sunday we go to the library with DD to take out books to get her through the week.  Every Saturday AM we grocery shop.  That's as far as scheduling takes us.

  • Sort of, Sunday after H gets out of work during football season we would go out and watch football. Now we just go out to eat. I work Thursdays night and more Thursdays than not H and B will go to a restaurant down the street for a little bit.
