Is it common for baby to prefer one breast over the other?

DD nurses really well but she seems to prefer my right breast over my left. ?

  • Are you left handed by chance?  I am right handed and my DD seems to prefer my left breast but I think it's really just that I am more comfortable holding her in my left arm, leaving my right arm free to adjust her and do other stuff.

  • Since day 1 DD has preferred my left breast over my right one. Consequently, righty doesn't produce nearly as much as lefty does.
  • yes dd prefered my left breast when she was a newborn. as time has gone on she doesnt care anymore.

  • One breast is typically an "underachiever."  Your DD probably prefers the boob that is easier to get milk from.

  • Yep, and I don't know whether it's the cause or the effect, but I now have a "DD" and a "C" (and 4 oz vs 1 oz when I pump)
  • Our lactaion coach advised that newborns usually like the left more because they can hear your heart beat & it makes them feel safe
