Baby Names too popular?

Are Henry and Lucy getting too popular?  I don't feel like they are in this area, but i'm like a walking zombie, so that doesn't mean much!

Re: Baby Names too popular?

  • I think it depends on where you are. For me popularity and trendy are different. Both of those names may be popular, but they stand the test of time, trendy names don't. If you like them use them.

  • I don't know any little Henrys or Lucys. Henry is my DS' MN, so I obviously think it's great. Agree that if you like them, use them. Both are names that will stand the test of time.

  • I have a Lucille that we call Luci.  I only know one other Lucy.  I also know a little boy Henri, but he is the only one I know.  I agree with what PP said about trendy vs popular.  Those may be popular names but they will definitely stand the test of time.

    I'm pretty partial to Luci and think it is adorable.  I also really love Henri!

  • The only Henry I know IRL is Harti09's and I don't know any Lucys. But even if I knew numerous I would say use the name, they are both classic and classic names will always be popular and never trendy.

  • I don't personally care for Lucy as a stand alone name. I know only 1 little girl with that name, but do know 4 Henry's in my area--kids of friends and family.  I think Henry is a lot more popular than Lucy in my area.

    I know a few Henrys (probably 5 or 6 of them ranging in age from 12 yo to 2 yo).

    No baby Lucys, only girls my age.

  • I think Henry is getting more popular again but it's a great, classic name. Lucy I'm not fond of as "Lucy." I like proper names so Lucille but NN Lucy is great. I have a hard time looking at a 25 year old woman and seeing "Lucy."

  • I know on the name boards they are pretty popular but, in my Church, Neighborhood, Work Community etc. I only know of 2 Henry's and 1 goes by Hank (ages 8 and 2) and 3 Lucy's (ages 16, 7, and 3). I really think it depends on where you are.

  • I have a niece who is a Lucy, but don't know a Henry.  I don't have a problem with an adult named Lucy- calling someone Lucille would seem really formal to me.

    Then again, I guess I'm not the best person to ask, since DD is the only Sophia I know IRL...
  • Thanks ladies!  Our girl names are actually Ruth and Lucy, which Lucy being #2 since she will have an Aunt Lacey.

    I also only know one Henry and one Lucy, so it's nice to know I'm not the only one!

  • I don't know any of either. I think there's a big difference in what's popular based on things like babynames and what's popular in certain areas. I have a Charlotte and am naming this little man Jackson which are both high in popularity on every website I see but I don't know any in this area.

    @jhasselt I LOVE Ruth, I think it's really pretty and classic :)

    I know a couple of Henrys and a Lucia that goes my Lucy. And DH's teenage sister is Lucy. I prefer Lucille with the nn Lucy.
