Cloth Diapering

Leaks question

Hi all. I'm usually just a lurker, but this time I have a question I couldn't find the answer to by searching old posts.

I have been CDing my almost 6-month-old for about 3 months now, mostly with OS pockets (and some BBs and fitteds thrown in there). I have been having an issue with my Rarz pockets leaking at the waist. At first I thought it was compression leakage so I switched to hemp inserts. Still leaking. Then I added a MF doubler. Still leaking. In all cases the inserts are soaked at the front and dry in the back and leak if I leave them on more than an hour and a half or so. Since it was only this brand, I chalked it up to fit and try to remember to change them more frequently.

Then I realized, the Rarz are the only pockets I have that don't have a strip of PUL on the inside of the front waistband. My LO has been spending 90% of his time on his tummy (playing and sleeping). Is this the problem? Will it get better when he starts standing/walking? Is there anything I should try in the meantime? Blue dawn?? (Relax, I'm kidding!)

Thanks in advance and sorry for the novel :)

Rarz gap a lot in the tummy area for my DS because he has a skinny waist, but they haven't leaked there. I would bet that a combination of gapping and tummy time are your problem. Maybe try snapping the diaper tighter at the top?

  • I agree that it's likely a weird fit issue right now, coupled with all the tummy time making compression an issue.

Just because I didn't know you could do this, I'll mention that you don't have to snap evenly. So like you could use the third biggest snap setting on the right side and the 2nd biggest on the left side to get a better fit than the 3rd biggest or 2nd biggest on both sides.  If that doesn't fix it, if you have plenty of other diapers in your stash I'd just put the RaRs away for a few weeks & try them again when he gets a bit bigger.

We had a weird time when DS2 was around 5 months old when our BG pockets didn't fit right.  A month later they were fine.  I think it just has to do with their size & shape

  • What rise are you snapping your RaRz to? They have a really low rise, so if you're matching it up to your other pockets, I bet the rise is lower than the rest of your diapers are on LO? I had terrible fit issues with my RaRz pockets, which is sad because they're very great quality. Anyway, if the other suggestions don't help maybe you just need a higher rise?

Thanks for the ideas. The Rarz are snapped to the last set of rise snaps, so I guess I could try them all the way unsnapped? I'll keep messing with the waist snaps, too, but maybe I'll just have to put them away for a while. Boo.
