Addison Paige's Birth Story (nickied143)

Short Story:

9 Days before my EDD (3-14-14) Miss Addison Paige came screaming into the world at 2:17pm weighing 6lb 6oz, and 20'' long, looking just like her daddy!

Long, long, long Story:

Had my OB appt Wednesday, still hanging out at 2cm like I had been for weeks, but said my cervix was much much shorter and I could really go at any time. After this appt though, I had lots of cramps and bleeding for next 12 hours or so, which Dr. told me might happen. So I went shopping and walked around for a while after the doctor. Thursday I decided I really needed to get a mani/pedi my nails were in bad shape. As I was getting the pedicure I started having contractions, not painful at all, just enough to know they were there. Around 4pm I started timing them 8-12 min apart. Since they weren't bothering me, I just chalked it up to BH. Around 10pm I told DH that I was having them for a while and we started timing again 5min apart. By midnight they were 3min apart, but again not painful or even uncomfortable, just tightening. DH wanted me to call OB and was getting mad that I wasn't taking it seriously. I told him I just wanted to go to bed and if they were the real thing I would know it. Woke up at 2am because my belly was getting so tight it was actually taking my breath away, but no pain. Started timing again... every 2 min....ok I guess I should call now.

Call OB at 2:30am, tell her the progression and that I don't have any pain at all. She said its likely that I won't until my water breaks and to go ahead and come in. Woke DH and DS (who was a trooper BTW) jumped in the shower while DH packed up the car. Got to L&D around 3:30am, connected to monitors, contracting every 2min, told I was a "tight 3cm" and I could get up and walk for an hour and see where things went. Well, as I was about to be disconnected LO had some decels and the nurse had me turn side to side until it came back up, and told me walking was no longer an option. Hour later I was 3+ and decided to keep me. Around 6:30 I finally started having a bit of pain - and epidural was always my plan. Just so happened anesthesiology was on the floor. By 7:30 I had my epidural and hadnt progressed any more. At 9am they decided to break my water to speed things up. At 11am they started pitocin. At 1pm I started feeling pressure through the epidural - after checking I was only at 4cm and frustrated. The nurse said it could be an hour a cm from here or I could go quickly and to let her know if I had more pressure. 15 min later I had a lot more pressure - I was 7-8cm and she turned off the pitocin. She went to call the OB and before she made it out of the room I called her back, I could feel each contraction and the pressure was intense. She checked again - I was 10cm and ready to go.

Then SGR. OB was in the middle of a c-sec. They wanted me to sit tight and wait 30 min....I made it 5min and told her I needed to push right now. So it was about 2:05pm and they called the OB hospitalist to stand in. As she was gowning up my OB called from OR and asked to switch and have her finish up the c-sec and she would run up to deliver me. The nurse was literally holding my knees together because I kept telling her the baby was going to fall out. 2:10pm the OB came running in and they broke down the bed and barely got my legs into stirrups when I just started pushing. On the 3rd push - out my team green baby came - IT'S A GIRL!

They let me do skin to skin right away and nurse her before they took her to clean and weigh. It was amazing and I am glad I could feel through the epidural at the end because I knew exactly what my body needed to do. She is perfect and we are smitten - especially big brother. Now lets AW my pretty girl.
