blankets

Silly question but does anyone use them at night? My LO's room is cold at night and putting on layers doesn't seem to help. I noticed he sleeps longer at his naps when he's covered but I'm nervous to do it at night. I was going to ask at his last appointment but the new doctor he saw gave me a lecture about co-sleeping so I wasn't going to bother asking about a blanket.

Re: blankets

  • We use a blanket. It is a medium thickness. She sleeps on her belly...so I put her down, put the blanket around and tuck it in a little on the sides. 80% of the time she is in the same position when I go to get her in the morning and 20% of the time she is on one side of the crib and the blanket is balled up on the other side.

If you are hesitant, you could use a thinner blanket...like a cotton swaddler/receiving type blanket.

  • @texwisjen I use a crochet blanket during his naps.Sometimes he stays under the blanket over times I find him on top of the blanket. I didn't think it was a big deal until the pediatrician gave me a hard time about co-sleeping and SIDS at his 9 month appointment. He mentioned  our blankets at that time so now I'm paraniod.
  • I just said something to DH about this last night. Im thinking i might give him one soon. I think he can move around well enough now to get it away from his head if it became an issue. We still put him in some fleece zipper bags and dont feel comfortable doing it with those cuz i feel that inhibits his movement some
  • @karicomo I was using a sleep sack but once my son started moving around more in his crib, he wasn't happy with it. He can't roll over easy with sleep sack on. That's why I want to try a blanket. At this point he's crawling, standing up and is trying to take steps without holding onto anything. I feel like it's probably safe at this point but the pediatrician made me think different.
  • He likes to cuddle something so I recently placed a crocheted blanket in next to him. he just likes to wrap one arm around it when he sleeps.
  • We've used a blanket since he started sleeping in his crib at 8 weeks. It's a fluffy blanket, and it's never caused any problems for us. But we're rebels. He's been sleeping on his belly since 8 weeks too.

  • R loved his blankets as a newborn when he napped on the boppy. I will still throw a blanket on him for a nap but not at night. He's like a baby sleepy crawling ninja. He's seriously all over that crib. We bought a small electric heater that has a programmable thermostat. We have it set to 70. We try to keep the house warm but for some reason if his room goes below 70 it kicks on then once it's above 70 it kicks off.

We use a crocheted blanket every night. And a pillow.
