Re: Pregnancy Check-in
Things are going well here. @manada continues to be very tired and nap a lot on the weekends. And she needs to snack every couple of hours or she gets nauseated. Also her digestive system is requesting simple carbs as her basic diet. Other than that, it's not too bad yet.
We had our first meeting with our midwife yesterday since she's a friend of ours. It was just the basic medical and family history intake type of meeting. I asked her if I could be referred to the breast feeding clinic (for induced lactation) before the end of first tri because I want to be ready if the twins come early. So she will make that referral this week.
Our next ultrasound isn't until a week from Thursday so I'm gonna try to relax and enjoy things until then. I'm excited that in the next few days we should be moving from the embryo stage to the fetus stage.
QOTW: thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite holidays, although I'm pretty sure I will get in the Halloween spirit with kids around, especially with the opportunity for paired costumes. I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas this year because the babies will be pretty new and it will probably be the first time lots of people get to meet them. (I'm not looking forward to the logistics of traveling for Christmas. We will have to discuss whether hosting is a worse or better plan than traveling. I don't think we will go to Chicago for thanksgiving but I hope my immediate family will come to us.)
We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.
Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.
Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response
IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
1st ultrasound (3/6 6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.
***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***
FET #1 December 2014
All is well here! My belly is definitely getting bigger and I think I'm to the point of not looking fat but rather having the shape of a pregnant belly. Yay, I think.
Last night was the first night sleeping on my belly caused me heartburn - or, at least the first time I put it together! I turned over and it was instantly gone. I had a talk with our MFM about sleeping on my back and he said up to 20 weeks is totally fine, and most women can do even to 22-24, but that if you are impeding anything you'll start to feel uneasy and light-headed and just move. Which was interesting I thought. Side sleeping will be a bummer, but I have my albatross pregnancy pillow at the ready - just haven't felt like I needed it yet. I am a stomach-sleeper at heart though, and so all the other options feel weird!
My attempts at eschewing all grains has been an abysmal failure. I'm still trying. As of Friday I'd gained a total of 2 lbs so far from my first weigh in. So, I'm not too worried- just more about inflammation grains can cause. I'll keep trying.
Our medical geneticist appt. is this Friday for our discussion about Trisomy X with an expert at Children's Hospital. I'm looking forward to having a plan and moving on from it for now...and enjoying our pregnancy!
My youngest sister wanted to host our shower and this weekend we got some dates on the table and I actually started a registry on Amazon. We are going to try to just have 1 to keep things very easy for people, but we'll see. It was kind of exciting though!
QOTW: I think for me, Halloween will be a blast and of course Christmas. My mom used to get giant sheets of construction paper and we'd use smelly black markers and make giant ghosts and pumpkins and put them up on the windows. I loved craft time! And Christmas is just fun - nothing in particular, but I want it to be special but not ridiculous (esp. with an only child) - so it'll be more about controlling myself I think! Still, her first Christmas morning where she 'gets it' will be pretty amazing.
Me (43) and J (45) - same sex couple. And we don't feel 40+!

33 weeks and 6 days today. Feeling pretty good. It's getting harder to move around, I waddled around Target yesterday because Owen felt like he was putting a lot of pressure on my cervix and bladder. Watching my ticker count down the days is starting to scare me EEEK 36+ weeks will be here soon. I've been getting a lot more BH contractions. Owen feels so strong now when he moves around. On a more spiritual note, I "feel" his presence more. Something I can't really describe... but its a different level of awareness and bonding than I experienced in earlier weeks. I can't wait to meet our little guy.
Our midwife R was unable to make it to our appointment last week due to a cold, so we're meeting this afternoon at our house. I'm looking forward to checking in, and glad its happening this week instead of last because we had a chance to confirm our birth plans with our family.
SPEAKING OF - I am soooo excited to be announcing my Brother-In-Law and his wife's BFP!! They are 5 weeks pregnant and cautiously optimistic. They have been trying for nearly 2 years, so this is a much celebrated event all around. I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed this is a healthy pregnancy and baby for them. They've been working with an RE, first Beta 600s, second 3300ish. My sister-in-law has RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and recently found out that nsaids (anti-inflammatories) were linked to causing issues with implantation. She went off them about 3 months ago, after having taken them since childhood. They got pregnant on a recent 3 week vacation out of the country. EV cried, I tried hard not too, when we found out yesterday afternoon. Sigh.... Anyway. This will be Kaden and Owen's first cousin, joining us November 2014.
Okay - totally back on track now. I found out about the "surprise" shower, EV's co-workers are throwing us. I know its not usual to have a shower for #2, so I'm very surprised, but her department likes to throw parties (its part of their work culture).
My other plans for getting ready include tackling our garage again this week and searching for a few things, including the breast pump. I also want to donate things we don't need anymore and get more organized in the garage (and house) in general.
QOTD: For St. Patty's we probably won't do anything much. Maybe I'll dress Kaden in green (until the outfit gets wet/dirty/etc.) But I love holiday's in general with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. EV's favorite is Halloween, and we had fun decorating and were prepared to take Kaden trick or treating with another couple and their toddler but Kaden got very sick with a fever. Maybe this year :-)
Feeling pretty good. Yesterday I started getting fairly consistent heartburn for the first time in my pregnancy (I've had a few isolated incidents)...I hope it's not going to last but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Oh well. Had my second yoga class yesterday, which was nice. I haven't been eating all that well -- as in too much that's not good for me -- so I'm kind of trying to reign it in this week. So far, so good, but it's only Monday afternoon!
QOTW: My MIL insisted we make corned beef and cabbage today. Not happening. I like it just fine, but I braised chicken for our Sunday through Tuesday dinners last night so getting something else seems silly. She did make me want soda bread though -- she has a really good recipe that we make sometimes and I wish I'd made it yesterday. Otherwise, I have no great interest in St. Patty's Day. I can drink beer any day! Well, not now. But normally.
I am most looking forward to celebrating Christmas with our son. Christmas is huge in our family, and my dad especially likes to go all out. This is his first grandchild (and the first boy in the family for ages) so I think he is going to go nuts -- it might be a bit much, but he will get super excited about it. And Christmas is a totally different ballgame with kids, which we haven't had in my family since...well, since my sisters and I were kids. So it will be exciting.

*Everyone welcome*
As a rule I'm tired, super duper tired. I am moving pretty slowly these days and counting down between when it's acceptable to nap again. Our Admin Assistant in our office knows and keeps commenting on how tired I look, and how she can't believe that's normal (gee thanks!), but I'm muddling through, I bought a little backyard folding lounger this weekend to nap on and got an hour in over my lunchtime today, so that was pretty sweet!
Overall I feel okay other than that, not too sick (as long as I remember to eat regularly, and not drink too much while I'm eating), and no other major complaints. I have a bit of the insomnia @2mamazinseattle warned me about already, which is annoying and mostly hits at about 3am, but so far I have managed to get back to sleep within an hour or so.... I think it's probably prep for those 3am feedings!
Everything I'm reading about twins tells us that we are going to need a feeding/sleeping schedule in order to have any hope of balance in our lives. Makes sense to me, and I imagine it will be a bit of a challenge to get them onto one, but I'm hoping it works and that we find support from our family/friends in trying it out. Any words of wisdom from other twin parents would be appreciated on this one!
QOTW: H.'s family is very big on holidays. Me, I'm looking forward to Xmas probably, because my mom really loves doing huge Christmases for kids with lots of surprises. I think we have little family traditions, like eating ham and scalloped potatoes for easter dinner -- but I think mostly H. and I will figure these out on our own.

28wk6d today - EDD is June 3rd!
Well, I just came from an OB appointment, and I have lots to update. I had an ultrasound today to check size and position of baby (my OB normally does this for her patients around the 29 week mark)... well, our little lady is not so little. Estimated weight is 3lbs10oz, and my OB says it looks like she is in the 96th percentile for both height and weight. OB says if baby keeps growing as she has been, then we are looking at a 9.5-10 lb baby at full term. Oy!
In other news, she is also breech. She still has plenty of time to move; however she has been breech since the anatomy scan, so it seems she is comfy like that.
I have another ultrasound in 3 weeks to check her growth and position, and my OB says that if she is still breech by 34 weeks we will start talking about the possibility of a scheduled c-section at 39wks. I am not happy about this option; however, it is what it is at this point. I am not going to freak out yet, because it is still early by all accounts in terms of positioning. I am a little worried that she is so big, but again -- it is what it is!
Aaaand, I am also anemic. My OB wrote me an Rx for iron pills today. She asked if I eat a lot of red meat, and I said I don't eat any. She asked if I was willing to, and I said I would consider it if I really needed to, but that I haven't really had it in years. She said OK and wrote me the Rx for the iron pills. Said one side effect is constipation. Oh joy. She stressed that should I need a C-section, blood loss could be a factor if I am still anemic, so she wants to see if we can bring my iron levels up.
Otherwise, baby and I are both looking healthy. I only gained 2 lbs in the last 4 weeks (which for this stage of pregnancy is not bad, since they say about 1 lb a week in the third tri). My BP was good. We talked a little about the results of my glucose test, and my doctor said I "passed with flying colors" since I was a good 30 points below the borderline mark for GD, so she was very pleased with that. So overall, the moral of the story is it looks like I am having a big baby who is stubborn and may just insist on entering the world a different way than I had planned/hoped. Trying to go with the flow and not stress for now, since there isn't much I can do about it. Next appointment is April 9th and I will have another ultrasound then.
QOTW: I am super excited for Christmas and Thanksgiving with kiddos! They are by far my favorite. I am hoping to blend some traditions from my family and my wife's, while also creating some new ones. I can't wait for Christmas mornings! I am also not really a Halloween person, but I am thinking it is going to be very fun with kids, so I am looking forward to that as well!

As of now, the due date is Oct 2nd. Not much new going on. Belly has really started protruding and it is obvious I am pregnant now. I freak out b/c I feel like I am HUGE, but then the Dr reminds me that it is twins and I will be bigger than my singleton compadres. The m/s is now almost completely gone! Thank goodness. Exhaustion is my new bestie LOL. Oh, and the twins seem to love hanging out on my sciatica (sp?) and hips. That part is awesome LOL
QOTW: Happy St. Patrick's Day! What holiday(s) are you most excited to share with your future LO(s)? What fun holiday traditions do you hope to either pass on/continue or start for your family? We both love family so any holiday where we can do that would be great. Easter was always a blast for me growing up b/c the "bunny" hid our baskets really well and it took forever to find them (who thinks of suspending them under a table??). Thanksgiving is always at my mom's house or her sister's house (we switch every year). Luckily M's family does xmas eve and my family does xmas day. Also really can't wait to share my father's Jewish holidays with the twins either!
