Robitussin or Cepacol while pregnant?

Hi all! So I have a pretty nasty cold… lots of chest congestion, coughing so much my throat is bleeding, aches and pains.  I got a list from the Paoli OB of drugs I can take without calling first, and both Robitussin DM and Cepacol lozenges are on there, but after doing some googling, it seems that they are less than safe.  Have any of you taken either of these while pregnant or should I just ride this out?

  • Sorry, I just saw this!  Sounds like you might have the flu and not a cold. I typically trust my doctor, but also don't take meds unless I am REALLY suffering.   If you want to avoid the medication try steam to relieve the congestion.  Boil a pot of water, put a towel over your head and breath for about fifteen minutes.  Do it two or three times a day.  Bring a box of tissues with you, it'll make your nose run.  Drink hot decaf tea. Again, the steam will help and the warm drink might soothe your throat..  Eat honey.  Some will say to put it in your tea.  I find that it coats and soothes the throat better if you just eat the honey.  Good luck, and when in doubt call your doctor!

  • Thank you! Now it is all consolidated in my head and a cough so I'm less worried.  I will definitely take your advice @belladonna11307 !!
