Job hunting Momma check-in

For all the ladies looking for work how is it going?

I am having trouble spending much time on it with this darn 4 MW. Little one doesn't nap much so it is hard to get much done. i did post my resume on monster and that was a disaster. i got called for 2 job selling insurance and one for a customer care rep. Sigh. I am not in a hurry to get a job since I like being with DS but we need the money.

  • Finance. I usually work at corporations doing budgets and forecasting. I actually love spreadsheets.  :D

  • I am job hunting as well just not as much as I really should be. Ive been cutting out anything I can in our budget to afford me another week. Sadly if I dont find something soon I will end up having to get something fast for money's sake and that would be a disaster. I really need to buckle down. I feel ya OP. Its hard.
  • I will continue with my current job if I don't gets other but we're trying to move from FL to OH and obviously can't do that without a job. Sadly I got an email yesterday that I will not be continuing in the hiring process for a job I was an ideal candidate for. DH applied for it too (we're both social science teachers with equally qualifying credentials) and got the same email. VERY disheartening as we even had connections at the school. But as those who I have told about it, there's still plenty of time before the next school year...meanwhile I've applied for 17 state teaching jobs, not overly optimistic about getting interviews...

  • I have an interview the day after we arrive in Washington!
  • I'm working on teaching jobs in Texas, but I'm having trouble applying because when I'm not alone with LO, I want to be spending time with dh. Oh well, gotta suck it up!

I am also looking for summer jobs. Since I'm an assistant right now, we are paid hourly, so no pay over the summer...ughhh

Yup, could have written this. I need to start ASAP but my life is in cycles of 3 hours at the moment, and the naps, if they exist, are 30 min tops. We'll get there, fingers crossed.

  • I am currently working but still desperately searching for a different job with a more set schedule. I'm also pretty bitter at how I was treated regarding pregnancy and maternity leave. I have an interview next week for an adult protection social work position! It would be an ideal job for me.
  • I am not necessarily looking for a new job but I am working on starting to do some side work from home doing cakes and cupcakes. Being a pastry chef I'm really creative, but not very business minded. I don't know where to start, and DH is really pushing me to make some extra cash because I'm only working 2 days a week now. I'm feeling totally lost and hopeless.
  • Mmc0323 my MIL runs a bakery business out of her kitchen, I helped her get it up and going if you have any questions or want suggestions. PM me ;)
  • @Mmc0323‌ I'm a Pastry Chef as well. I've done cakes and cookies for some friends and old clients (from a bakery I used to work at) from home. I could never figure out how to make it profitable. I guess I felt since I was doing it out of my kitchen I undercharged. I would love to start up again since the extra cash would be nice!
    Good luck with everything!

Thanks! See I feel like I undercharge as well, especially since most of the business I get is from friends or friends of friends... I feel like I work super hard on it and it's way harder to work in my kitchen at home than it is at work. I'm trying to figure out if maybe buying at Costco would help, but my kitchen at home is small and where would I keep it all. Lots of logistics to work through, but I'm trying! @Cambury108‌ the next time I log on with the computer I'll pm you, I do have a couple questions :)
  • Im free to answer then whenever ;)
  • I'm looking for a job still and not having much luck. I've met with some staffing agencies so it's nice having people look for jobs that suite me best. But I'm not in a total rush to just take any job, want to find good location and pay. Bc I was laid off right before I returned from Maternity leave I do get unemployment which helps a lot. I'm loving this extra time and just praying something perfect comes a long before I do need the money/benefits.
  • I had a good interview last week but now DH and I are talking about potentially relocating for his job which is completely changing up strategies since I'm now also trying to research jobs in 3 different states as a what if :|

I have the same problem.. Small kitchen, no storage. You should maybe look into sharing a kitchen with a caterer or I've heard of time share style kitchens where you rent for certain hours.

I don't know where you live but it's kind of a PITA in CT to be licensed to work out of your house. You need a separate kitchen with its own exit and bathroom. Definitely not a possibility for me :(.
  • @ltpugs I live in ct too!! Haven't even thought about a license! Oops! Yeah, that's definitely not an option for me either. I was thinking that DH is a member of the Italian club in town and they never use the kitchen... Going to talk to them about renting it when I need it!
