June 2013 Moms

You all need to do this :)

Set up an email account for your kid(s) and send them emails about all the cute, funny, amazing things they do.  Big memories will stick with you but the daily funny stuff really won't and once you get beyond that baby book (if you've been good about writing in it at all lol) all you've got is your memory.  I started Aiden's when he was about 1.5 and I just read back through them and already, just 2.5 years later, I had forgotten that he used to call light switches "butts."  I forgot that he used to say "Oh gosh!" but it sounded like "Oh gorsh" which is exactly how my grandmother used to say it.  I forgot that when I was pregnant with Quinn he told me he was going to teach him how to be a super hero.  Right now I know that Quinn laughs like Karen from Will and Grace but I don't know that I'll remember that when he's grown.  So I email them to tell them about what his life is like right now so we can all go back and relive it :)

  • That's cute. We have a little notebook that I use to write down the funny or cute things that he does. My mom had notebooks for my sister and I when we were little. We recently read them and they were so funny and it was great to read stories that we didn't remember.

  • My dad used to carry around these little pocket calendars.  He's a contractor and would use it for appointments, measurements, phone #'s, etc.  In the back he would always write funny things that my brother and I said or did.  They are pilled in his desk drawer and we've always loved going back and reading them.

I'd never thought of the email idea!  Much easier to do with the technologies of today!

  • My mom kept a diary when we were little and I love reading them but I am thesuck at physical writing.  I just never do it :)

  • What would worry me is what if email .. Or at least the provider of the one you choose .. Doesn't exist in 18 years?
It is a cute idea though. I would probably lose a notebook.

  • Love this idea. We already have an email account set up for our dog (don't ask haha) but somehow I had never thought to set one up for N! And I might be a little crazy. All 3 of us have firstnamemiddleinitiallastname@gmail email addresses so then I started getting worried that other kids we have won't have that email available, so since we know what our boys name would be, I went ahead and set up an email for our hypothetical son. I figured there's at least a 50% chance we will need it since I know we'll have another child. Or maybe I'm just crazy. Shrug.
