3rd Trimester

Baby hiccups... help!

I'm 32 weeks and my baby is still extremely active, but for the past couple days she has calmed down for a couple minutes and I feel a little pulse about every other second that will last a couple minutes. My first guess is hiccups, but I thought there would be more space between each one and they wouldn't be so quick and close together? Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if I should be worried or not..

Re: Baby hiccups... help!

  • It took me a really long time to figure out that baby hiccups are crazy fast. I was feeling this weird ticking in my nether region for weeks before I put it together. Everyone would talk about feeling the hiccups and I thought my little lady just never got them. Nope! Sounds like yours is getting the hiccups to me!

  • This happened to me LAST NIGHT... I was freaking out a little bit until I realized (I hope) that it was baby hiccups. I've never had a kicking episode be so consistent so it made me worry. Only lasted about 5 minutes maybe.

It also can be shivers. Their little nerves are developing and I have had with both pregnancies what almost feels like seizures but it is a shiver or hiccups

  • yup sounds like hiccups to me too!!  My LO gets them a couple times a day...it makes me smile knowing she is swallowing and getting bigger and bigger everyday....they are definitely little miricales!!!
  • Definitly hiccups
  • My first hiccuped a LOT as an inside baby and continued to do so through the first 6 months or so of being an outside baby.  Nothing to worry about.  I don't think it bothers them as much as it does us, when we're older.
  • I experienced them for the 1st time this weekend. I loved it! Despite all the other movements I feel the hick ups made my little guy so much more real.
  • Thanks so much for posting this!  This past Saturday, I felt what seemed like a consitant thump (like a bored child swinging it's foot) in my lower abdomen for about 5 mins.  Almost like a heart beat.

    LMBO - hiccups!!!

Love the hiccups. It's so reassuring to feel them and know that baby is practicing breathing. It won't be long now!

  • Mine gets hiccups quite a lot, usually in the evening. DH thinks it's hilarious watching my belly twitch. She's also shivered a few times in the last week. It's like a couple of seconds of shaking, then it stops. Really weird.

  • I wish I could know if I have felt these! I have felt so many new movements this trimester, I feel like I must have experienced them, but I just may not know it, yet.

There is one motion she does that feels like, out of nowhere, she started "running in place" really fast for a few seconds, then stops. Could that be hiccups?

  • I think the quick movements are baby changing position or playing around.  As I've gotten bigger I'm remembering how much the movements change.  But hiccups are consistent movement in pretty much the same spot; this baby has varies from having them every 1-2 seconds, and other times every 4-5 seconds.  I don't remember noticing them with my first, but my second and third had/have them a lot!

  • I wish I would have read this I sooner! When I first felt the her have shivers I thought it was a seizure, I was so worried and shivers never occurred to me! She gets hiccups almost everyday and they last about 5 min, sometimes longer. At first I thought it was the heart beat but it was too slow. Sometimes it makes me nauseous when it lasts longer than a few minutes.
  • Literally after I opened this, my LO got this hiccups! Strange. I've only felt them a few times but I'm learning to know what they feel like.

I've felt the "shiver" thing too. It's only in one little spot and super quick. I always wonder what she's doing!
