Opinions on three names?

Lillian June (nn Lily)
Gwendolyn June (too many potential nns to list)
Deanna June

Lillian is my favorite name, but soaring in popularity, which is why Aidan was not remotely an option - not sure how we'll feel in a year (lilies are my second favorite flower, but I'm allergic to my favorite.  Such is life.)

Gwendolyn is his suggestion and a nod to our Celtic roots (we also discussed Guinevere and Genevieve - Genevieve is too froofroo and Guinevere is too fantasy.)  I like Gwendolyn well enough, as well as most of the nicknames.  His other suggestions have been Lindsay which I hate with a fiery passion and Anastasia which I can't quite seem to talk myself into (it's not bad - I just don't like it enough for my child.)

Deanna is a nod to his grandma Cynthia, who I more or less want to be when I grow up (I strongly dislike the name Cynthia for weird reasons, but we both like Deanna).  I DID have a co-worker Deanna who I still talk to but we're not overly close. (She's lovable, in an "I hate people but you're OK for now" kind of way.)

June is after my mother and my favorite great-aunt and various great grandmothers who are poorer namesakes.

  • another vote for Gwendolyn!!

  • Lillian June (nn Lily) - I like it. I actually don't know any Lillians (just one Lily). I'm not sure how this ranks in popularity, but have you thought of Lilith?

Gwendolyn June (too many potential nns to list) - I REALLY like this name. I could never use it since my name is Wendy and it would be too similar. I wish my parents would've named me this instead, actually. It's so classic.

Deanna June - Meh. Deanna just seems a little dated to me. Like I picture a middle-aged woman, not a little girl.

As much as I like the sound of Lilith, the demonic/religious associations make it a no-go, along with Jezebel (and Delilah, but I don't like Delilah to begin with.)  My mom gives our D&D nights the side-eye (and she's one of our less judgmental relatives.)  Lilith...  I don't even want to imagine.

  • Holy smokes! I've been reading the BN forum for years now and this is the first time I have seen Deanna come up as a suggestion! /shocked

I'm totally biased of course because it's my name. As a kid all my friends just called me D. It was a great nick name for a little girl and it ages well imo.

It's unlikely anybody in her school will share her name and she would love it ;)

  • Lillian is also my favorite, but I would go with Gwendolyn if the popularity thing really bugs you. Deanna is okay. It doesn't wow me.

I love Lillian but the popularity of the Lilys would probably dissuade me. I love Gwendolyn, very pretty. Deanna is fine and I have nothing against it, but it's nms.

  • So so so sick of Lily/Lillian. Deanna doesn't do it for me.

I totally LOVE Gwendolyn! By far the best on your list. And the name of my BFF from college :)

Is Diana June an option? Otherwise Gwendolyn. Side note- I don't see hoe Deanna is related to the name Cynthia? ?

  • Etymologically related - Diana and Cynthia came about as names for Artemis.  I think of Princess Di when I hear Diana, so I'm not a fan.  Deanna, however, is a variant of which I'm a fan.  I know, it's a long leap.  That's why it's just a "nod" to her.  BUT it's one she will appreciate, because she is interested in mythology, if not because it's the deity she's named for.

  • I really like Lillian June :) Gwendolyn is beautiful as well, but my real vote is for Anastasia! You can't go wrong with any of your choices, especially with the family ties.
