airport security

I know this topic is probably SO 3 years ago but I never really gave it a second thought until now.  For those of you flying during this pregnancy, are you going to go through the body scanner or ask for a pat down?

  • It is a very very very small amount

  • I flew 2 weeks ago and was indecisive until I got into the security line. There were several signs that stated it was safe for pregnant chicks. I did read about it prior to that and a lot of what I read said there is no risk for those traveling, it's just not good for the ones that work near it all day everyday. The signs saying it okay day of made me realize that I probably really was over thinking the whole thing.

  • Pat down... If there is any risk, albeit small, why take it?

  • I only flew once during my first pregnancy, but I opted out. We have the weird ones that you walk into for the full body scan... They kind of creep me out anyway.

  • I will be flying when I am around 21 weeks (May) and will ask for pat down! Don't want to risk it with the body scanner!
  • I would just do the scanner if I was by myself. But if we fly I will most likely be wearing DD so that means pat down.

  • I fly 5 to 6 times a month and opt out of the scanner while pregnant. I don't feel it has been tested long term to really know the risk. I just got my pre-check approval so now it will be metal detectors instead of pat downs.

I just flew a couple of weeks ago and I was just going to go through the scanner. The tiny amount of radiation is worth it to not have creepy TSA people touching me. They moved me over to the accelerated screening line so it was just metal detectors (I don't know if it's because I was traveling alone or the military ID or what) but I would have done the scanners just the same. DH was more worried than I was.
  • I flew 2 weeks ago and asked for pat downs (per my doctor). It was fine, but at the Hartford airport the lady said theirs was "sound waves" technology and totally safe so I'd know "for next time"-- I'd rather just listen to my doc and get pat down.

  • I am flying next week opting for the pat down. I did last pregnancy too, and oh boy - TSA does not like it! I think it is part of why I am doing it too ;)
  • My doctor recommended the pat down when I was flying at 8 weeks, as a better safe than sorry item (risk vs. reward). She's less worried as I progress, and I'll have to fly a few more times but may continue to opt out.

  • Just fyi, the pat down is invasive.  Dh's aunt works for tsa and she did one at a family event and I was shocked how thorough it was.
