15 months and not walking

hi all, i know every baby's on their own schedule etc, but DS is the only baby his age that i know who isn't walking yet. he's happily furniture surfing, standing up from a seated position, pulling up on furniture and has several words, very social etc, but he hasn't taken those first independent steps yet. have any of you had the experience of having a "late" walker? i guess i'm just looking for some support from folks who've had the same experience. when did your "late walker" start to walk?

14 1/2 months. Sounds like he's close! When did he start standing from a seated position? I'm assuming you mean like standing in the middle of the room without using hands on something to pull up. L started doing that and then maybe a week later took those first steps.

I agree that you're probably close. 15 1/2 months to walking for us. He was cruising furniture a little before his one year birthday. Now at 21 months we can hardly keep up with him he runs so fast. It will happen. And there will be days where you miss him just being able to cruise furniture

Mine didn't walk until 16 months. I felt the same as you, but don't worry, it will happen soon!

Sounds like your DS is getting close! I think he just needs a little more confidence. my son didn't walk until 14m. A girl in our "class" didn't walk until 15m. AS PPs said, it is not a concern until 18m.

DS walked independently at 17 months. Sounds like your LO is just fine.

DD didn't walk until 15 months, but when she did she walked across the room without any issues (I still think she practiced in her room when we weren't watching).

DS on the other hand has been walking since 10 months, now at 12 months he's running through the house to chase his sister... In his class at daycare there are two boys in his class that are three months older (15 months) and not walking yet- it varies.

Everyone says it and I know it's like a broken record- once they start walking they will never slow down... Enjoy the little bits of calmness you have left in your house.

Oh, you are so OK. No worries.

My DD did not walk (or stand independently) until she was 21 months old. She started pulling up on furniture at probably 15 or 16 months. She didn't crawl until after that. She was seriously late in gross motor on all counts, right from birth.

Turns out she has low-average muscle tone. She's now almost 3 and totally "normal" -- swimming, dancing, playing soccer, running, jumping, climbing, the works. She's abnormally flexible though, which is really neat.

I would not think twice about your child. He'll be walking before you know it. Just the fact that he's doing all those other things (especially standing from sitting)...I wouldn't give it a second thought. Seriously.
