Tuesday Appointments

Re: Tuesday Appointments

  • Sitting waiting for my OB now. Appointment was scheduled for 45 minutes ago so I'm kind if just hanging out. I'm anxious to talk to her about my growth ultrasound from yesterday. Other than that it's a usual appointment.

  • I have the dreaded GD test this afternoon. Yuck! I'm dreading this appt to because I have definitely put on some weight. I am anxious to find out the results of my last cervical measurement. Good Luck to all the others with appt today.
  • i have my regular ob checkup but we are also going over my growth and placenta check US from yesterday.  placenta has moved but is still pretty low, so i hope they let me have one more check before deciding on a c section...

  • I have an appointment at 2:30 PST. I am pretty nervous for some reason. I think because I get my GT results back. My paranoid brain believes I will have GD and I am just waiting to be lectured. I am also going to request that they do a cervical exam. I have been having contractions again and I am nervous that something is going on.

    Good luck today, ladies!

  • Finally done my appointment, after the wait and the appointment.  We discussed my growth ultrasound from yesterday.  The baby is weighing approximately a little over 3 pounds and is measuring 31w5d.  We discussed that my sugars aren't high and I lost more weight this week.  She is going to consult with my MFM to see if I should start insulin to control my sugars and baby size.  She's thinking we won't go to insulin yet but she still wants to explore it.

We are sticking with my scheduled c-section at 39 weeks, unless I go into labor, obviously. We talked a lot about the effects of the GD on the baby, including slower lung development, higher fluids (which she said will make me more uncomfortable as time goes on), and the baby's ability to control his sugar after he's born.  She said they'll check his sugar and then likely need to supplement with formula to bring them up (the low sugars affects brain function).  I am planning on EBF so we discussed still doing immediately on the breast and to start pumping the day I deliver so my milk supply comes in.  He may need a day or so in the NICU but we'll play that by ear. Believe me, I'll do whatever I need to make sure my baby's healthy and safe.

There's just so much to take in right now and I'm having anxiety because of my birth experience with my second son who was 7 weeks premature.  Memories of the NICU and the sadness of not holding him, breastfeeding him, having him in room, etc.... just spending days in my room crying watching the other mothers push their babies back to their rooms from the nursery, that is until I got horribly sick and ended up in ICU.

Sorry for my novel, I'm just really nervous about all of this GD stuff, his size, etc.

  • I'm sick but couldn't cancel my sonogram due to it being earlier than the office technically opens and begins taking calls. Baby is measuring BIG (not ahead) so now I get to stress about GD.

  • I had another appointment today. Due to my preterm labor issues I'll probably start going every week until I'm over this first hump. Another cervical check, I think I've had every doctor in the practice check my cervix so far.

I had another weekly progesterone shot, still taking Procardia every 6 hours. Doctor said next week something will be in stone about whether or not I'll be on bedrest until I deliver. But my chances are good.

Oh and failed my one hour glucose test by 6 points so the three hour will be on my schedule for next week as well.

Good luck everyone at your appointments today!
I'm currently waiting for my first timed draw for the glucose challenge. Kind of nervous... I've gained a lot of weight and have been lectured both times about it. And last appointment I measured 3cm ahead.
  • Good luck today!

  • Had my growth U/S yesterday and my regular appt today.  Unfortunately she didnt have the read on the U/S yet.  But yesterday they said LO was measuring at 29w5d (3w3d ahead) and today my fundal height was at 30 weeks - so pretty consistent.
She praised me on the weight gain since last appointment and overall...and then shit hit the fan.

My bloodwork from 3 weeks ago came back fantastic.  No GD insight.  However, she wants me to limit further weight gain and follow a low carb GD diet.  She also wants me to start bi-weekly appointments and said she's ordering another GCT and likely will have me repeat every two weeks "until they get the diagnosis".  I'm annoyed because I've done everything right so far and my blood work is great.  I also have slight edema, but my blood pressure is perfect too.  When you look at me on paper it's a perfect model pregnancy - but when you look at the ultrasound LO is bigger than he should be (estimated to weigh 2.9lbs) and paired with the slight edema they want to treat me as if I already have GD & blood pressure issues.

In a way I'm glad that they are taking precautions.  I have history of spontaneous preterm labor and I'm glad that they are watchful of the warning signs.  But I'm in morning too because I really wanted the Ben & Jerry's ice cream with the filling inside and my DH is NEVER going to let me have it now.  I might just sneak in one last Shamrock Shake on the way home...

  • My appointment last night left me wanting to switch practitioners:

We had an appointment with a midwife last night who was very loud, abrupt, and never gave me an opportunity to ask questions or talk about how I’ve been feeling. She asked me if I'd been having contractions. I told her I didn't know what a contraction felt like but I had some very faint cramping feeling earlier in the day. She didn't ask me how long, how many, etc but launched into a lecture about calling the office and pre-term labor.

When my husband asked about where we go when labor starts, the midwife basically told us we had to decide which hospital to go to (there are 2 hospitals in one) with a warning that if I chose one side I wouldn’t see the midwife on call very much. I wasn’t aware I had a choice nor do I know what the pros/cons of choosing one side over the other is. I asked if I could tour both sides, she told me no, that it was too busy last night (which I understand but she didn’t suggest any alternative times which left me feeling like I have nothing to base my decision off of.)

I'm really confused. There are 6 midwifes in my clinic, 5 who deliver babies. I've now met 4 of them and I can't imagine delivering with the lady from last night. I walked out of the appointment wanting to cry and feeling unsure of myself.

Today's appointment went great. Everything is normal, which is a wonderful thing to hear. an un eventful appointment is a good appointment for me. My blood pressure is better, sugar was a little low and was told I can eat more sugar (nice!) and weight gain is all normal. Also, baby turned and is now head down and in proper position, and that's why I'm having increased pressure and why I'm all swollen.

Also to make it even better this was the fastest time I was in and out of that office. 30 minutes including wait time and seeing the nurse and ob. Amazing.
