Team green problems - Im pissed

So we had our 20 week scan today. We were planning on staying team green and I told the tech as soon as she came in. She was great and told us to look away whenever she went near that area. Another tech came in half way and said she needed to relieve her because she needed to do something else. I told the new tech right away too. Of course she scans over that spot and stays there for a few seconds and my husband and I are pretty sure we saw the goods. Now there is a chance it could've been something else, but I really doubt it. She just didn't say anything. I guess she just thinks we wouldn't realize if she didn't say anything. I'm just really upset. This is our last baby and I really wanted it to be a surprise and if we were going to find out I wanted it to be by choice not because the tech slipped. Now I don't know if we should just find out for sure or still wait. On top of all this the doctor was a complete ass and could barely talk. He said we don't need to come back even though the previous doctor scheduled me for three more scans.

Re: Team green problems - Im pissed

  • Well that sucks the second tech did that. My two cents - don't find out for sure, keep waiting. And then convince yourselves / fake yourselves out that you didn't see anything. That it was the cord or a leg or an arm instead. Convince your mind that it was something else and if people ask, tell them no you still don't know.

  • I agree with the PPs that you're not sure what you saw. We had an ultrasound last week and our doctor thought he found "boy parts" (his words), but then when the baby moved he realized it was the cord. I'd say unless the tech specifically said then you don't know for sure.

  • Our tech didn't even turn on the screen for us. She turned her monitor for a minute when she knew it was 'safe' and then turned it back.
I'm so sorry you think you saw something, but honestly, those things are HARD to read. I wouldn't assume you know what it is.

  • At my 20 week with DS, H and I were both very sure we saw vagina up there...then the tech showed us a different angle and sure enough, boy. This time around, I went early for an elective. I was sure I was seeing a penis, but tech says girl.

Sounds like this isn't your first rodeo, and you may very well have seen "the goods," BUT you may not have! I say stick with what you planned, and stay team green.

  • This is one of my biggest fears! Or the tech forgetting and telling me! Although ultrasounds really are hard to read and we over assume many things. You probably were looking at something totally different than you thought you were! But I definitely don't blame you for being mad.
  • My last pregnancy I had an appt the morning before my husband was returning from an underway (shorter than a deployment) we had scheduled the anatomy scan for when he could go so we could find out together! The dr decided to look herself at my appt in her office and when I explained that I wanted to wait for H she replied with "so you don't want to know that it's a boy?!" Uh. No lady I didn't. Thanks. I was so so angry and she was right it was a boy. I understand your frustration!

What an awful way to ask the question! That's just plain stupid and rude.  I lucked out with both scans last time.  I told the tech immediately that we didn't want to know.  She said that she always automatically referred to babies as "he" because calling it an "it" was just weird.  When it was time to check out the goods, she warned us to look away and we did.  Same deal at my second scan.

  • I work in a hospital and around 26 weeks (during my first pregnancy) one of the doctors wanted to get a little practice with the ultrasound machine and scan me. We were team green too. Like a dummy I looked at the screen the whole time and was SURE I saw a penis. My heart sank a little because I ruined the surprise for myself. I told my husband what happened and he was a little peeved that I peeked! So the rest of the pregnancy I told everyone we didn't know the sex but in the back of my mind I thought it was going to be a boy. We literally picked out the girl's name on the way to the hospital when the boy's name was chosen months before.

So you can guess what happened. I had a girl! It was an amazing surprise and we are team green again.

What you saw on the scan could be a lot of things. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You have a 50/50 chance of being right anyhow ;)
  • Thanks everyone! You've definitely made me feel better about what I saw. I'm not so convinced now. We've decided to stay team green and forget about what we think we saw. @Nuclearcupcake‌ that is terrible what happened to you! I would be so mad!

she was apart of my team of midwives and when I was done with my appt I went and requested never to be scheduled with her again. After that I had switched to my OB (same office but I only saw him instead of just anyone there) at my last appt with this baby I asked about her and she was no longer with that hospital. A lot of patients had some issues with her.
