Just for Fun- Things FTM's Do.

So I never use gif's on here like everyone because I'm usually on my phone app.  Today I'm wasting time at work and found this and thought you ladies might like it... the gif's reminded me of you.  :)

(I'm a FTM also so no one get offended.- ha)

  • Some of those made this STM LOL.

Like a birth plan. Had one last time and it went out the window when the words induction and pitocin came into play. This time my plan is: Mom and baby come out of birth alive and no worse for wear. Letting go of the illusion of a perfect birth now rather than during labor.

I haven't bought this kid any diapers yet. I have some NBs leftover from DS. I wanted to wait until I was in the window for returns before I got more. Receipts will be taped to the packages.

And her nursery is so not fancy. It has what she will need, but color coordinated it is not. Half the stuff is being reused from big bro. I hope she likes woodland animals on her hamper and pink/green other decor, LOL

  • I just realized the other day I don't have any diapers bought for the baby at all lol! I need to buy a couple packs soon. I did love my changing table but a dresser at a good height would work just as well. :)

  • Haha that's really cute and most of those are true for me as a FTM. :)

And when my STM friends and family's tell me "Oh just wait ....", "You won't need that..." or "Oh, you'll change your mind". I'm like:

"Back off and let me be an irrational first-timer with lofty dreams of a child who sleeps through the night, nipples that won't crack or bleed and a home that manages to stay immaculate with a newborn. The reality is coming soon enough, let me have my fantasy!!"

They just don't want you to be upset or disappointed when it doesn't happen :)

Some of these are really funny.  I didn't bother with newborn diapers last time, nor will I this time, no birth plan because let's face it, if I plan on something it will not go that way anyway, we had a cute nursery for DS and have a cute one for DD but they are by no means fancy lol!  Especially since DS is not even 4 and we've redone the theme of his room 3 times already.  No wipes warmer here.  I am sort of in love with the formula keurig thing though... although we use room temperature water for bottles so we don't have to warm them up, but I will be googling that for fun lol!  Can't remember what else was included in the post but it was cute.

  • This was funny. As a FTM it is hard to be rational sometimes. Although I think I'm on the right track bc everyone keeps telling me I dont have enough on the registry lol! But decorating is huge for me, I won't back down on that. I have to like what I'm looking at at all hours of the day. Most of it is DIY or thrifted but it's pretty and it matches dammit! :)

Wait, what? This is not a fantasy! This is how it's going to beeeeeeeee!!!  Right? RIGHT!?!?!
  • I'm a STM with a birth plan.  I know I have no control over how exactly things will happen, but I need my illusions, people!  </drama flail>

I suppose the crazy and/or serious Type A personalities need to hear that having a plan for birth isn't like having a plan for [insert any typical plan-able thing where the plan actually works], and that a flexible approach is good.  I just feel better knowing my preferences, and giving the medical personnel a heads up about that, considering I'm a rational person who accepts that the best laid plans gang oft agley.
  • Cute for a laugh.  I definitely have way too many clothes but I tried hard to buy a variety of sizes, so some of the stuff he can grow into.

The person who gave my prenatal class said basically the same thing! I hope to breastfeed, but it's complete bullshit to say that "if you do everything right there's no reason for it not to work". All the nurses I've encountered since becoming pregnant have a serious BF bias that I find off-putting.

There does seem to be a strong shift towards breast-feeding emphasis lately in the medical community. I think that's a great thing but they still need to be respectful of people's circumstances. My prenatal classes are offered by our public health unit (city-run) and they are part of the "Baby-Friendly Initiative." At our first class, the nurse said that because the initiative strongly encourages breast feeding, she can't really talk about formula so if we want information on that, we need to speak to her privately. That just seems ridiculous to me. Why wouldn't you want women to be properly informed about ALL of the options?

  • I don't have a birth plan My midwife has asked me a lot of questions so that if possible I will get the things that I would want.

  • I have a birth plan, it is to throw it out the window as soon as I feel this baby coming.

Half of everything you can register for is a complete waste. Seriously.
Everyone has their own opinion regarding what 'necessities' baby needs but in all aspects of reality- he/she needs diapers, clothes, food and somewhere to sleep. Seriously. Half that luxury shit won't even get used.
For instance, wipes warmers and bottle warmers...REALLY?? Are we seriously THAT lazy??
  • Sometimes it gets old being told how dumb you are as a FTM. I know I don't know what it's like but that doesn't mean I'm completely uninformed.

There was a girl on 1st tri that didn't know she should be taking a prenatal vitamin because she's a FTM, come on.

I don't care about a fancy nursery, the perfect birth plan or having 100 cute outfits. We didn't register for a wipe or bottle warmer. BRU seems way overpriced on most things. I will try and breastfeed and try to go without an epi, if those things don't work out that's fine.

Well shoot. My mom went crazy and bought us about 300 newborn sized diapers! I finally told her that I think she should stop once I realized how many we currently have.

The only thing I can't get down with is the whole parenting part. I do not think I will be quite and that my kid will be well behaved. I believe that I will have to stick to my guns and let him cry over not getting that toy and be a brat till he learns that he can't get everything he wants. I definitely have ideas on how to raise my kid, none too lofty in my opinion. I don't want to let my kid walk all over me and end up with one who I can't handle/ doesn't respect me when he gets older.

I was taught to respect my parents and other adults and that I am not the center of everyone's universe. I plan on raising my kid the same way. Luckily my husband and I feel the same.

I ran into the "if you do everything right there's no reason for it not to work" so many times when I was pregnant with DD.  It was horrible.  I KNEW that we would likely have major BF issues and all anyone would tell me is that they have a friend of a friend who had a baby with Ds who BF just fine, the mom just had to work a little extra the first 6-12 weeks.  JUST HAD TO WORK A LITTLE EXTRA THE FIRST 6-12 weeks.  I mean FFS, from what I can tell BFing a typical child who eats well is a challenge the first 6-12 weeks.  Saying to just do a little extra is/was crazy to me.  I think they've all been reading The Womanly Art of BFing.  Remind me to go burn that book sometime when I need catharsis.

The idea that if it doesn't work it's just because you didn't try hard enough is complete and utter hogwash (but seems to be an incredibly prevalent attitude).  Of course it's true in some cases, but who's to say when a mom has done "enough".  If baby is getting fed then that's enough as far as I'm concerned about anyone else.
My mum couldn't breast feed me and I turned out completely fine. I was FF'd from day 2 and have had no problems whatsoever. I intend on BFing, but I'm prepared in case I can't. I have bottles and will buy formula in the next few weeks, just in case. I understand that "breast is best" to a lot of people, but it's becoming an indoctrination now. Feeding your baby is best. I'd rather have a satisfied and well-nourished baby from FFing, than an unhappy baby who is losing weight because I've been shamed into BFing despite poor capability. I didn't miss out on any bonding because I was FF. In fact, we were best friends until she died last year, so all that stuff about bonding is boohockey.

Oh and who said you won't look absolutely picture perfect after the birth? Below is Tamara Ecclestone's post-partum publicity shot from yesterday:

She must have been having her hair and makeup done while pushing. My family will be lucky if I even have my eyes open and have wiped the sweat off my face.

A friend's sister took the time to straighten her hair while she was labouring at home a couple of years ago. She had no makeup in her hospital pictures but still looked great. It's not high on my priority list but if I can handle it, I'd seriously consider doing that too. At least it would give me something to pass the time!

  • I feel unprepared when I walk into her building site of a nursery, but we actually have everything we need should she arrive now. It looks worse than it is because all we need is a crib, chest of drawers and to put some pictures/shelves on the walls. She has a moses basket, so we'll be keeping her in that for a while in our room anyway.

I also don't see the point of a birth plan, unless there are cultural or religious reasons for you to be adamant about certain things happening or not happening. My birth plan from the start has always been "give me the drugs and get that sucker out!"

is it wrong that I asked my makeup artist best friend to bring makeup/supplies to the hospital to "touch me up" after birth? Maybe that is my FTM showing...
