FF question

We have been using Similac fussy and gas. But lately she has been spitting up everything when i burp her after 1.5 ounces.
Should i try switching to regular similac or a different brand altogether?

If i do have to switch brands can i just do it cold turkey or how do i go about?

She spit up like this all night as well but normally she has had no issue with this formula.

Re: FF question

  • We've been using similac advance since the hospital . Granite it's only been 6 days but she seems to like it ! No problems so far

  • you could try to put a couple of the gas drops right into the formula mix, it worked great for my 2nd... for my first we'd give him a drop before he ate, then another after he was done and we'd burp every ounce to really help with spit up...
my 2nd we switched to the target off brand, and used the purple can, i think it's gentle, and a soy mix but not exclusively soy...we never had issues once we switched.. it seemed like a smoother blend and you just saw the difference when he ate...
    Good luck hope this helped..

  • Ask your pedi if they have samples of other types/brands you can try so you aren't left buying ones that don't work for LO.

As far as how to switch, with DS1 I did gradual over a few feeds. That was going from the regular Similac to soy. I don't remember if it is necessary to do it gradually, maybe ask the pedi?

Yeah i received a gerber sample in the mail and that would be my next direction! I really don't want to buy a ton.

  • I would check with pedi, but if she isn't arching her back or crying and gaining weight its probably okay, just have a spitter on your hands!
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @mn27mommy‌, what do you mean by arching the back? When I go to burp my LO he always wiggles away.. Maybe arching his back now you said that. What does that mean? He's ff on target brand gentlease.
  • Also, while we're discussing ff, anyone else notice a change in Los poops once on gentle formula?? We totally need a ff thread! So many q's!
  • @sebullows‌ like arching the back.

@mn27mommy‌ She does it sometime but not everytime she spits up. Mainly when she needs to poop.
But crying yes. She cried from 2-4 this morning and i couldnt do anything.

  • @mndynitetragdy‌ projectile spit up is a phase?
Does the coincide with the three week growth spurt? Because that would explain a lot. I feel like she is eating 24/7 lately.

  • well i go back to my gas drops suggestion if she's arching, and needs to poop! Also try laying her flat on her back, and bending her legs at the knee up towards her belly and out to the sides, helps keep things moving! ( ;
hang in there all of you, i'm sure you're doing great!! ( :
if ever i get this baby on the outside, i'm sure i'll weigh in on what's working/not working for me with #3.......LOL!

  • DS1 would arch his back, pretty noticeably when we set him down after a feeding/burping ... not a wiggle. We brought it up to our pedi and we tried zantac for infants with reflux. He was on it for a few months. Crying is normal, but if it is a patterned cry, for example every time (i stress every time) shortly after they're done eating it could be their tummy cant digest that formula. After we tried zantac it helped reflux but DS1 was still crying after every single feeding until he'd pass out from exhaustion, we went through many formulas and doctor visits to get their recommendation until we found the 'magic' formula for him. He's totally a good eater now just early digestive issue some go through. Be patient and see if you can gather info, then talk to their ped. They'll be able to recommend a change in formula plan if they think it will help!

  • I agree with needing a FF thread! I have so many questions. Like I was pumping and supplementing with Similac for supplementation but my supply is almost non existent now and so she was just full bottles of that. I switched her over to Similac fussiness since I wasn't supplementing anymore (no boobie milk) and she was a gassy lil lady. Since then her poops are like play dough and she's obviously really not happy passing them! Idk what to do :( tummy massage and bicycle legs aren't helping. I am pretty sure she just needs more water in her poops. Ugh. I feel like a failure

We were having gas issues and cam's pediatrician suggested giving infant probiotics a shot, which definitely regulated his gas situation. He still hangs onto burps and can get uncomfortable but it's gotten better!

    Good luck!
  • @kls33145‌ where do you find those?

  • @Laura8388‌ gripe water is more just for upset stomachs, supposed to help with colic, and generally has herbal supplements..
Gas Drops like mylicon actually get in there and seek out the air and kind of swallow it up to relieve the gas bubbles in the digestive tract...
That's what my ped told me anyway..
People find both work, guess it just depends on the babies...

  • @kls33145‌ where do you find those?

My brother and his wife picked this kind up for me (see pic). She's a nicu nurse and this is what they used with their daughter. They got it from a local vitamin shop but I searched online and it looks like quite a few places carry it!
