PP high blood pressure?

Hey guys!  I've missed being around but am loving catching up on all the birth announcements.

Has anyone experienced postpartum high blood pressure?  Mine was fairly good throughout this pregnancy and even during my hospital stay, but the day after I came home it shot up and hasn't gone down.  I have an appointment tomorrow, but I'm nervous about what could be causing it.  Any similar experiences?

Re: PP high blood pressure?

  • No experience with it but it does happen- I work cardiac and occasi

  • Occasionally with have a week PP mom admitted to get IV meds for it.
  • Yes...I have high bp so monitor mine closely. After I had dd my ob wanted to see how I would do off my meds...while I was still in the hospital I had a few high readings, but nothing they were concerned about or didn't go down when I laid on my left side. However when I came home I was having readings like 162/110 while active...I called and talked to the on call dr over the weekend and she said that as long as I didn't have 160 or 110 even at rest that it was okay. I'm still monitoring and will talk to my ob about, but that's the advice I had gotten. I would suggest laying down and taking it and seeing if it's still high.
  • Mine was high when I went to have my staples removed 1 week pp. I suffer from low blood pressure so it was surprising. Guess we'll see how it is at 6weeks pp. Hope yours goes down!
  • I'm having the same exact problem and who the hell knows why it happens? I had perfect BP all throughout my pregnancy and L&D but as soon as he was out, it started spiking as well. Highest readings have been 150/92 but they've been giving me some BP meds here in the hospital and now it's more like 130/80.

The body goes through a lot during and after pregnancy so I'm convinced it's just the body's reaction to everything. I'm almost 100% positive all will settle down once recovery is complete so I wouldn't worry.
  • My midwife said to look out for headaches, and drink a lot of water.  I'm monitoring mine, but it's just been borderline a few times.

  • I had it in the hospital after I had Anna. Just went to my OB for a check yesterday and it is still high (146/90) but is dropping from where it was. He said it's out of the range where they would medicate and he thinks it is related to all the fluids the body now needs to reabsorb. Good luck - you aren't alone with it, but good chance it will resolve quickly.
